Fun game for an evening or two. Gameplay is rather simple but effective. Characters are cute too. Hard recommend to play on hard. Main campaign is still kinda easy, and I didn't think of leaving a review after it, but then I unlocked EX mode and that's where the real fun is. Enemies become more interesting, e.g. "sniper" enemies become pinpoint accurate and you need to utilize cover most of the time, instead of just lazily dodging. Levels get appropriately harder and some of them introduce fun twists or gimmicks. And it even has a nice connection to the story, what is there not to like? Overall, it's pretty good.

The Last Salvage Squad — simple, red, and way better on Hard Score: 9/10 I played this game from beginning to end, and I can say one thing for sure: you HAVE to play it on HARD mode. I completed the entire game with a speed build, where even a single hit could be fatal. Because of that, I was able to enjoy the game’s premise much more: you are the last squad fighting to save Earth, even though there is no one left to save. 1 - Gameplay The gameplay is pretty simple: you start a stage, pick up the weapon of a fallen ally, and spend the rest of it fighting waves of enemies. The problem is that you are almost always at a disadvantage, either because they attack from above, because some of them are faster, tougher, or simply more aggressive. The game does not require absurdly advanced skills, but that does not mean it is easy. You always need to pay attention to the terrain, use the space around you properly, and avoid standing still for too long. For Earth Defense Force players: it feels pretty similar, except you only use one weapon and, instead of being the size of a normal human, you are 12 meters tall the entire time. 2 - Story The story is interesting, even if it is simple. Humanity was attacked by extremely powerful alien beings coming from every direction at once. During the war, humans were unable to achieve any real victory on any front, and were eventually forced to create something that could serve as their last hope. In the process, they developed mechs capable of actually damaging the enemy... but that achievement came far too late. Unfortunately, all humans were wiped out, leaving behind only their incomplete weapons, which keep rebuilding themselves and trying to fulfill the objective they were created for. Humanity lost. Earth now has an eternal red sky, and there are almost no living beings left. Like I said, the story is simple, but it is complete and works very well for this game. I will just pretend the dog does not create a small hole in the story, because apparently the developer really loves their pet and decided to put it inside the game too. 3 - Graphics Here I wanted to mention something that might not be 100% confirmed, since it is something I investigated without having too much information. Even though the game looks fully 2D, almost like classic Doom , it seems that only the characters and enemies are actually 2D. The rest appears to be 3D, including the weapons and even some of the body parts shown on screen. I did a Unity dump and found FBX files. After opening some of them in Blender, I was able to see actual 3D models. If that is really the case, then it is a pretty fun trick: using 3D models disguised with filters and a 2D aesthetic. Now, talking about the visuals themselves: this game is red. Very red. Thankfully, all that red does not become painful to look at, because the redscale palette, focused on many variations of red, white, and black, is used very well here. The visuals are striking and fit the game’s atmosphere perfectly. As for the allied characters, they are quite simple. It is a bit sad that there is basically only one variation of the smaller ones, who were created for tasks completely unrelated to combat, and the taller mech, who is the only one actually made to fight in the war and ends up being an important piece of the game. In the end, it is basically this: many variations of yourself and one unique character. It is a little sad, but it fits the idea of the game. The enemies follow a similar pattern, but in a slightly better way. They do not change much in color, but their shapes and movements are very different from each other. Some are scary because of how dangerous they are, while others are just extremely annoying. Conclusion In the end, The Last Salvage Squad is a simple, direct, and stylish game. It does not try to be a huge experience filled with endless content, but what it tries to do, it does very well. It might not please people who are looking for tons of variety, complex progression, or nonstop action, but it works very well for anyone who wants an action experience that is simple, easy to understand, and fun to play. For the price and the amount of hours it offers, I was honestly very satisfied. Final score: 9/10

Pretty cute and good 2.5D game shooter, interesting art style and solid gameplay. The movement mechanics have a little to be desired but thats really my only complaint with the game (the sliding especially.) I managed to 100% it in 7 or so hours, but I'm also really slow when it comes to playing games so you can probably do it quicker than that. Main story is 2-3 hours or so. Would recommend.

8/10 (+) Awesome art direction (+) Lots of build customization (+) Cute characters and story (+) Fun amount of enemy variety (+) Set pieces that are PURE CINEMA (+) Fun post game content (-) The starting weapon is (probably) the best one. (-) The parkour can get a bit janky at times The dev said "I want to make an arena shooter with great movement, and cute robot girls" and by god that is exactly what they made! Easily the best $10 I've spent on video games in a long time, if you're a fan of first person shooter games this is a MUST have. If you're not a fan of FPS games, this just might sell you on them. For the price the devs are asking for, I got my money's worth at least twice over.

It's a short, cute classic FPS worth the price. I only wish the game allowed you to carry more than one weapon per mission to prevent it from being monotonous. Still, it's charming enough to get a pass from me.
