Having been a SimCity nut since the mid-late 90s, I first played the original when it came out 25 years back. Eventually, when it was released as the "Complete Edition", I went and grabbed it. One day, my mom saw me playing it, asked what I was doing, and I offered to let her give it a shot. Until the day she died in 2020, she was hooked in Sim-dom, with mods out the yin-yang. This is where it started... for her, and for me. For her, I return.

After reading negative review after negative review about the terrible performance upon release and all the work arounds people were doing just to load the game, I was pretty hesitant about buying this. But I wanted to play it so bad! I read all the patch notes up until 3/14/2025 and decided to go ahead and risk it. 12 hours in: I never experienced one single crash. No game breaking bugs. No weird resolution issues. The graphics look outstanding. Switching between towns is so quick compared to what I remember 25 years ago. After booting it up for the first time last night (which took a little bit) it now loads very fast each time I load the game. The only tiny glitch I have experienced is after doing the 'rosebud' cheat the mouse pointer will get stuck; this can be solved by hitting ctrl+s. I haven't played this game since it first released in 2000 and I honestly believe it holds up. People complain about the $20 price for a legacy game. Which I get it. But it comes with alllll the expansion packs! $20 for hours and hours and hours of fun? Yes, please!

It's sad the product doesn't instantly work when you buy it, thanks EA. But here's how I fixed it: 1. Steam launch properties (on a 1440p monitor) -w -r2560x1440 2. To fix instant crash when creating a family + empty neighborhood (taken from EA forums - it worked): Go to - C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\The Sims Legacy Collection - Copy the folder named all "UserData" (Also UserData2,3,4 up to 8, those are the extra neighborhoods) -Paste all "UserData"(and UserData2,3,etc) in C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\Saved Games\Electronic Arts\The Sims 25 3. I also instantly crash any time a burglar comes and takes an item. I found out I can prevent this by temporarily making the game windowed while the burglar is present (alt+enter). This completely circumvents the crash. There one issue I haven't found a solution for, I cannot pan the screen around by hovering the mouse to the edges. The only thing that works is holding right mouse button and moving it that way. Unfortunate. All these issues aside...underneath the (modern) mess there is one of the greatest games ever created. I played the hell out of The Sims Deluxe when I was a kid. The game is legendary and was innovative for its time, and in my opinion it still holds up today. This is the only reason I'm willing to look past EA's poor Steam release and bugs.

right click on game. launch options. type w -1920x1080 good stuff, would be nice if they made it not super small for people who dont know how to fix it

I bought the game, installed it, spent about 10 minutes making my sim look the way i wanted her too, bought a house, made breakfast, set the stove on fire, caught fire, then died. It took longer to make my sim than she lived, 10/10 it works great though.
