Great, small horror game! I've never played this type of anomaly game before, so I was a bit confused at first. The "help" leaflet at the start is a bit too vague for players new to this. I'd recommend this strategy: the "map" is basically a loop. You start in the "private room", which is like a safe corridor. It has 2 exits which both lead into the bar (the bar has 2 sides). You always go along the right side (probably also works if you do it the other way round, but I didn't test it) if you want to progress further. Then you investigate the bar every time. If you see an anomaly (an anomaly is basically something which is different compared to the default bar. Such an anomaly can be very subtle, but also not subtle at all. It can be non-scary, or scary, or even deadly), you go back the way you came (but still avoid any "dangers"), until you're back in the private room. Then you loop around again and there should be 1 more bell hanging on the wall (and the words above the bar indicate this as well), indicating that you've progressed correctly. The changing words above the bar (e.g. "The THREE Bells" if you've progressed correctly 3 times) do NOT count as an anomaly. If you don't see any anomaly in the bar, you progress along your loop by entering the private room again. If you were correct that there was no anomaly, there should again be a new bell on the wall. And so on. If you mess up and didn't identify anomaly or non-anomaly correctly, the bells will be gone and you have to start again basically. The corridor which connects the cellar and one of the private room entrances also counts to the "bar", meaning there can be anomalies inside that corridor as well. In addition to the bells, there are other things in the private room which change based on your progress (items appearing, and other stuff). This probably progresses the overall story. So basically: if you see an anomaly, go back into the private room *the way you came*, if you don't see an anomaly, keep going forward, this will also lead you into the private room but from the *other* side. Both will progress your game, if you've seen it right. Entering the private room basically always ends the current loop iteration and starts the next one. You just have to enter it from the correct side to actually progress further. This is a very simple game actually but the concept is really great. It's IMHO better than those walking simulator horror games like Layers of Fear, because here, you have to observe your surroundings with a keen eye, and when this is combined with horror elements, it has an even bigger effect of "scaring" you than if you were just "normally" moving through the map, not paying too much attention to everything. So this anomaly-seeking stuff has a great natural synergy with horror games. It also feels a bit like a detective game that way. If you have a good eye for detail changes, you can play on Nightmare. Which basically has double the amount of anomalies compared to the base difficulty, and among those are probably more subtle ones. I started with Nightmare right away because I wanted to see all the different possible anomalies. It makes your progress through the bar slower, but I like the added suspense and variance. This game is very immersive and somewhat scary, and the gameplay concepts have great synergy with one another. It's just a great concept overall, and it makes this small game seem very "large" or dense and varied. Everything just fits together for a great experience. The hallmark of great game design. If you want to like horror games but don't usually like many horror games, try this one. A game which is a little bit similar is "The Mortuary Assistant" - if you liked that one, you'll also like this one.

One of the best Anomaly games I have ever played! - Detailed atmosphere - Excellent storytelling - Superb music - Unexpected moments - Good spooks (absolutely no cheep jump scares) And the best part of all was that I was raided on Twitch by the dev of the game just as I 100% the game. The community behind Hillfort is 10/10 and I look forward to the next adventure!

A nice short horror experience. The pacing is excellent. The mechanisms of the game force you to doubt and re-doubt your own eyes and memory. This lends itself to a rising sense of both excitement and paranoia. The overt scares are sprinkled in just often enough to give proper catharsis. Check it out!

I've recently discovered I really like spot the anomaly games, and this is a great one. I played this during December and I love that the bar was decked out in Christmas decorations, seasonal changes are always appreciated and show the devs have some genuine love for what they're doing since they didn't have to but did. The story is good, not super complex but it doesn't have to be. The game has a great atmosphere that really adds to the spooks. Could not recommend it more, and it's a steal for the price.
