The original Ghost Recon is an amazing and hardcore tactical experience that differs greatly from its more modern sequels. You start each mission on the loadout screen where you can choose the ghosts you want to send out, each of whom have certain skills and equipment that others don't. You have to plan carefully depending on the mission description. If you choose the wrong loadout, you could be in for a world of pain and sometimes it's even close to impossible to finish certain missions if you're not careful. Enemies mostly die after taking one bullet to the chest, but so do you, so be very careful. From a technical standpoint, it's astonishing that this game doesn't need any mods or community patches. It runs at high resolutions and 60+ fps without any issue out of the box and that should be commended. The only thing I didn't like is that sometimes the AI pathfinding is awful and your teammates get stuck on walls or doorways. You can switch to them and move them around, so it's not gamebreaking, but it's definitely annoying. Even though it's 24 years old, Ghost Recon is truly a timeless masterpiece. 10/10

Sigh - such a classic beautiful game. My first PC gaming shooter. The perfect military campaign in the early 2001. My love for Russian conflict ever since Goldeneye. This game was my first online PVP experience in it's perfect lag! But we didn't care, we fought anyways excited to see what happened to the enemy and ourselves. My name Recon/SilenceR came from Ghost Recon. This is where my PC online gaming life began. Even before STEAM - I was playing this off a CD!!!! I still have the poster, the players guide and the original gaming box!!!!! God bless Tom Clancy and may he RIP. What's even more awesome is in 2008 I actually joined the US Army and eventually got to work and fight side by side with GreenBerets in Afghanistan - my profile picture is on the Firebase in 2010!

Still one of my favorite FPS games of all time, and every bit as good as I remember. It's part shooter, part strategy game, and a tactical mistake means death, especially on the highest difficulty. Half the fun is analyzing your objectives and deciding which roles, loadouts, and team assignments to use. It offers a kind of slow, thoughtful gameplay that no other shooter has been able to replicate for me. The expansions are great as well. Also one of those games that uncannily predicted the future.

This is easily one of the most unforgiving video games in existence. Everything happens in real time, so you need to be quick on your feet and use every single tool the game gives you or you will NOT even get past level 1. The visuals have aged but the game play is still buttery smooth and incredibly challenging. A masterpiece of a game from a time when video games were much more of an art form than a profit generator. The Ubisoft that made this game no longer exists </3
