It's the time that I always like to have a neutral vote here. Before I say something, I need to say that I %100 game on day 1 release. The game changed/updated significantly since release and that's why I wanted to wait until some patches come. -Positive- Nostalgia. This is all I can say. I actually cannot recommend this game to new gen like "YOU SHOULD PLAY THIS GAME! YOU WILL LIKE THIS GAME IF YOU LIKE PLATFORM!" etc. This game is hard. I mean It was hard to find all events and how to complete them back in 2000s. Now there are tons of guides and videos that explain/show/spoil all the events and how to complete them. Even though with them, you should at least give a try if you like adventure, metrovania type platform games. Not a big story but yea fun. Voice actings weird but hey that was what we have back in these days. Rewind system? Oh that's a relief they added this tool. I finished the game %100 on day 1 release. That's how much I like this game. You don't need to play the first game to understand the story but first game is good too you should definitely try that one too though it is much more difficult to platform and you game over instantly if you fall of from cliff or hp bar reaches zero and need to load game(this is no place for a review for the first game). -Negative- First of all don't know what is happening on code side but my bet is on they are using different rom to run game when choosing JP/US soundtrack because your saves are not transfered between these versions. As this is a very understandable situation for a ps1 game, in 2026 I didn't expected they didn't do anything about it and just released the game with a rewind system added (which is easily done with emulator system) Second, unlike the first game, there is no remastered music here which I actually expected since the announcement. Not a big deal nostalgia still hits hard but it would be cool if they remastered it (and I want to point out again that I finished with JP soundtrack on day 1) Also voice acting recording is too old that you get the feel you play a scene from vhs cassette. (that was not a thing in 2000s but now it really feels weird). Dude they even included the failed voice acting when you get nikishi feathers (THE NIKISHI BIRDS... ok here we go there we go alright record again... IF YOU FIND NIKISHI BIRDS PLEASE...) THIS COMMENTS WERE ADDED TO NOTEPAD BEFORE THEY RELEASED FIX PATCH BUT I STILL POST IT IF YOU COME ACROSS THIS REVIEWS ELSEWHERE 1) When I finished the game, they only published it with JP soundtrack which actually kills nostalgia if you are us/eu player. Now you have a chance to select which version you want to play but I want to point a note here that your progress is not transferred between versions so choose which soundtrack you want to play carefully. 2) This game used to let you continue when you die. And that was a tactic to full your hp bar. If you are about to die, you would die and hit continue to refill your hp and play where you left. But this new steam version removed it and you instantly hit to game over screen. I didn't knew it and lost my 5hours progress because of it. I am not angry about losing my progress because I died, I am furious because I died intentionally as a tactic which the game allows me normally but developers removed it for some reason. Now they fixed it, you can normally hit to continue screen and play as expected. 3) This can be spoiler if you want to know the true story behind but there are some additional events that you can only trigger by completing the individual quest givers in the first game and show your memory card at the endgame section the game. In this version the game assumes you completed these events and add these events into this game. Normally you get these new events nearly at the end of the game but on day 1, you get these events immediately which actually can break the game at some points. I knew what I had to do so I glitched back to normal somehow but no need to worry as they fixed this problem too. If you people read until the end thank you very much as you may notice I am not a review type person but I do love this game a lot and I thought I should post positive review when Limited Run Games release a fix patch and now here I am.

Patched Up and Good to Go! Why So Serious(ly Negative)? A lot of the negative reviews you're seeing on this game are not due to the state of the gameplay, but the fact that due to a licensor's decision ( Whoopee Camp ) the game was released with a hybrid Japanese OST as the default and only option. This tied in with oversights of the lack of a "Continue" option after a Game Over left many understandably upset and looking for an outlet to voice their opinions. ...and it's Fixed!? Seeing the overwhelming backlash, the developers responsible for this port reached out to the Tomba Club Discord to help find and fix the bugs and major complaints. Not within weeks, but within days . Both the missing OST as well as the Game Over oversight were fixed and are now patched into the game as of the writing of this review. Is The Game Good Though? Yes. Despite the rough Day 1 launch, the gameplay and experience of Tomba! 2 is a charming and whimsical venture into a world filled with Evil Pigs and iconic landmarks. If you played the first game in the series, Tomba! , then this is going to be very similar in a lot of ways. The 2.5D ideas of the original are turned up to 11 with the 3D models. It all has the iconic PS1 charm to it with the polygons you can count. There are still things that need to be addressed, but I'd rate this rerelease an 8/10 . Get out there and save Tabby!

Patch notes from a few hours ago: - Added US soundtrack to the game. Players can swap game versions by pressing left or right in the main menu. Note: save files for the JP soundtrack versions do not carry over to the US soundtrack version. - Modified Game Over screen to have a 'Continue' option instead of resetting on deaths. Upon game completion, the option will be to reset. Among other things, but those were the two most important ones. Game is worth buying now.

This game defined my childhood, that one game you just played a few hours of, turned it off and maybe a few weeks or months later you'd do the exact same thing. Although I never remember beating it myself, my big brother did and I counted that as my own win. Despite a lot of negative reviews for the OST of the game, I thought it was refreshing to experience the differences, and how the Japanese OST felt more ambient compared to the western release. Although it wasn't the catchy, in your face nostalgia hit of the western OST. It didn't take away from my experience playing the game. 100%ing the game for the first time made me realize just how much I missed as a kid, and experiencing it now as an adult made me appreciate the game even more. Pros: ⦁ Rewind feature made some of the more grindy parts of the 100% less stressful (looking at your kujara washing, and trolley minigame). ⦁ Tomba 1 quests being unlocked by default. Cons: ⦁ The traditional save/load menu is gone, and if you aren't aware of the rewind feature. If you game over, your only option is to go back to whenever you last manually saved. ⦁ I had a few performance dips where the game would stutter for a good 20 seconds than just return to regular performance. ⦁ There is a missable achievement even if you technically "100%" the game. My brother passed away earlier this year and never got to experience this release. 100%ing the game for the first time let me celebrate something neither of us did growing up. Leaving me with a bittersweet feeling of nostalgia, one that will always remind me of both my love for the game and the bond I shared with him.
