When I was like 5, I'd go to Nitrome.com every morning and eagerly check if a new game had come out. Didn't have much in terms of consoles, so it was really Nitrome that gave me a taste for video games. Upon hearing about this remake, that sense of giddiness came back to me. The level design has only gotten better in this DX edition, we're also spoiled to get all the old levels back too, but the way that the new enemies feel, and the new interactions with certain game mechanics, feel really fresh. The spirtework looks significantly more fluid, and has drastically improved since '09. More than anything though, I'm just happy Nitrome's still around.
As a long time Nitrome fan (circa 2010 or so), I had been awaiting for this game's release since its announcement. I'll admit I never played much of the original Twin Shot 1 or 2 on the Flash era of games, but I did have a distant admiration for them; so I guess this would count as my first proper time giving them a shot. For starters, the art is beautiful, which is always a given when it's Nitrome. The original games' art has been redone to Nitrome's current standards, but the brand new Atlantis area honestly takes the cake, looking not too dissimilar from their work on Shovel Knight Dig's Secret Fountain area, and the music for it is amazing. The music as well is also a huge plus, I have to commend Dave Cowen for his work on the tracks, both old and new. It's certainly strange to hear them as clear as water after years of hearing them in the original versions. As for the gameplay, this has to be one of Nitrome's best. I can't speak for the multiplayer experience, but from a solo experience, the game was a blast from beginning to end. There were a few cameo characters that were nice to see, and it was very cool to see the original layouts for the original games as an unlockable . I can see some complaints at the time of writing that are justified though, like how the game won't allow two players to play with a keyboard, which is pretty strange considering that the original games permitted this no problem. There's also the case of there not being online play, which can be a disappointment to some. Or on other notes, there's also the case of no achievements or Steam collectible items. Hopefully these things can be remedied in the future. 200+ levels / 10. Shoutouts to the practice of archery. EDIT 1: The split keyboard issue mentioned has been fixed by Nitrome, so that's good to have.
