Everything in the game description is accurate. The combat is easy to learn and not difficult to master, your biggest enemy will be the camera angle, but don't put yourself into a corner and you'll be fine. While hardcore roguelike/soulslike fans might find it lacking in difficulty, the game delivers solid game play and fun 1 hour runs. If you are into retro visuals and ps1 type of quality games this is something you should check out. Update: Writing this after completing the dlc. I felt this was a strong addition to add to the game. It was a nice blend to what was already currently available. The new addition of the game felt like it was worth my while. 8.3/10

I like the concept, I was actually developing a similar idea for a game, but I was trying to combine Sekiro style combat with Slay the Spire decision making mechanics. Scope was too big for to solo. I've very sympathetic to the genre though, so I have to give this a thumbs up. I beat it on my first run, being very familiar with the genre, and it does seem to have some additional difficulty settings. Things I have to give props for: - Some unique ideas in the boss encounters - Really faithful to DS1 mechanics, albeit no charged heavy attack - Love the PS1 graphics Things that can use a bit of improvement: - More enemy variety - Enemies can also be a bit more thematic to the biomes they're in - I like the level up mechanic but have no idea what's going on with the different categories (greed, rage, something else) I don't know if this was a solo developer, but overall it's a really solid, well rounded, well made package. I encountered no bugs and everything worked as expected.

Having gone through a handful of beaten runs and starting Difficulty II, I can recommend this game for anyone looking for a Souls-like Rogue-like. Lots of fun, hope this gets some DLC down the road. If you own a Steam deck, this feels like a perfect game for it. Quick runs that usually last about 30min-ish, easy to pick up and drop.

i've only beaten a run once. was very excited to see higher difficulty options and you know i'm gonna try my best to get through em all. this game rocks as it is, and has massive potential. stuff i liked: * addictive gameplay loop, game is just plain fun * true to souls games in most essential ways * speedrunning potential seems high * color/class system is intuitive and forces me to make tough decisions * visual aesthetic is great--i been playing with the ps1 wobble effect on lowest detail some stuff i think could be worked on: * enemy variety is too limited imo. i want skellies and jellies too you feel me * boss movesets are too easy to exploit * equipment seems unbalanced. for example, fist type weapons seem way overpowered. there's a solid amount of gear i have no interest in trying out, but that could be playstyle * shops don't feel as impactful to runs compared to other roguelikes i've played. i wanna have more choices to make, especially once i've bought all the stuff i care about * i wish the area progression could be randomized in some way. as it is, i feel inclined to always pick the same path because you get more money in the elephant boss fight if you wear the money robes (which i also always feel inclined to pick) * would love to see more stats about my runs added in a future update * some of the levels are too visually dark, and the higher brightness option is too washed out to use * the merchant rubbing his hands together animation loop is a lil sus * eats a surprising amount of steam deck battery at moderate/high detail settings (lowest still looks good) don't be misled by the ratio of negative to positive feedback, i'm just going hard with (hopefully constructive) criticism because i see so much potential here! thanks devs for scratching an itch a lot of us have had for a long time
