UBERMOSH:BLACK is, essentially, UBERMOSH+ or UBERMOSH 1.5 - it's the exact same game, only a little more refined, a little more demanding, but with a little more of an edge on your side in the form of Brainclaps that come from your character after so many kills. If you've seen my original UBERMOSH review, then it's more of the same plus a bit extra. In all honesty, there's not much of a reason to go back to the original once you've played this unless you're a completionist (like myself), idling for trading cards (like myself), or you don't mesh with the heightened difficulty of UBERMOSH:BLACK. I still think it's a decent enough game, though, but it's more Super Street Fighter II than Sonic 1 to Sonic 2, if that makes sense. +No "Survive X number of events" achievement +Brainclaps are a nice form of incentivization for kills that wipes out all enemies and projectiles(!) on-screen +New gun that's fun to use +Not sure if this was in the original but screenshake when you're hit is a step forward for visual feedback whenever you get hit -The new gun only appears very late into the game and the red gun is still very much the dominant meta, all of the other guns are still largely irrelevant unless you're playing a different class (why would you, Warlock is right there) -Screenshake when you're hit is entirely negated when the red gun has screenshake every time it fires - how hard is it to find stock "female character gets hurt" sounds and having those play? -Auto-Fire is still locked to the Gunner, and setting turbo for the triggers (as in the actual LT RT actions recognized in-game) doesn't work - why yes I will rebind them to mouse buttons and have THOSE on turbo instead of button mashing in my single player game with no high score leaderboards, how did you know? -No options menu, again -Still barely any invulnerability frames if at all -The class mods still suck (besides Warlock because Warlock is UBEROMSH's Super Shotgun) and having a 5 kill difference for Brainclaps is pretty much a non-issue and an entirely worthless distinction; just make it 55 by default instead of trying to force variety -The blade still kinda sucks and doesn't immediately come out mid-shot -Catalyst is just No Class but worse; the dev said it's the "score-focused" class in a post I'd found looking into Psionic Reaper (I got it pretty easily with Warlock, because Warlock), but the only difference is 5 less kills for Brainclaps and a harder time getting to the red gun (one less respawn than No Class) -Running into enemies still hurts you -There IS new music, but you barely ever hear it due to how little of it there is

In my opinion, I think Walter Machado should have taken all the eight Ubermosh games (including this one), and combined them into a single experience: One game which includes all maps from the previous games, all modifiers, all modes, all saints, etc., and which also includes basic options found in other indie games such as volume controllers for the game's music and sound effects, and the ability to switch between windowed and full-screen mode using an in-game option (instead of having to rely on Alt + Enter). Such a polished product might be worth USD $5 at full price, and I would recommend you get such a product ONLY on sale. Unfortunately, that game - that "Ubermosh Definitive Edition" - will most likely never exist. Thus, I think I would only recommend you get any of the games in the Ubermosh series ONLY whenever they cost around $0.25 or less. I do think they are decent twin-stick arcade bullet hell mini-games, after all.

The second installment of the Ubermosh series. Plays largely the same as the first game, with a few small additions to boot. As with its prequel, it is a very fast paced cyberpunk-themed game where the objective is to kill as many enemies as possible - by either shooting, deflecting bullets, or slashing enemies - within 90 seconds while surviving the onslaught of bullets, within the borders of an arena. Included are a number of classes, weapons, and powerups that can be used in the game. 2D 16-bit retro graphics that look decent, with superb music that just fits the game like a glove, and fluid and rapid gameplay that is excellent for short bursts of playtime - in that note, works wonderfully in the Steam Deck. Most of all, is dirt cheap, and goes on sale ever so often. Highly recommended, even if just for an hour for the score and survival based achievements. 10/10
