What do you do? -You select a character with pros and cons (Needs less water but can't use tools efficient for example) -You get your first truck and start driving -You loot abondoned places along the way to get stuff -You eventually reach an outpost where you trade your stuff in for money or send stuff you like back to your garage -You drive on and do the same stuff again and again -Your journey will end sooner or later. No gasoline, car is broken and you got no tools left to fix it, you starve and so on. -You start again and maybe you found a new car along the way. How far can you go? Pros: -Exploration and wide open areas -The mechanics are simple, yet well done -The soundtrack slaps -You can feel improvements to your car such as better fitting tires or a better engine -Fully adjustible difficulty settings to make your game fitting to your liking -If you invest enough time, you can make your garage look like a really nice workshop, having tools, parts and other stuff placed nicely in the shelves -Low poly graphics allows for a smooth gameplay on lower end hardware -It's relaxing Cons: -It can feel repetetive and stale after a while -Not many different points of interest, there are about 20 (i did not count them by the time i wrote the review) and they are always the same in terms of build up -There is a bug that can make all the items you loaded into your vehicle fly out like an exploding confetti cannon, the more items you loaded in, the more likely it will happen. Tipps: -Listen to something else while playing it. (I recommend some audiobooks or "The Forever Winter OST") -Learn soon what is valuable and what isn't. (This can differ, depending on your settings) -Have a watch in sight IRL as you might end up sinking hours into this game, despite them feeling like minutes. -Make sure your car is in good shape, pile up on tools and replace low health parts that can't be repaired, such as tires and windshields. All in all: If you like roadtrip games, this one's for you! 20 bucks is a fair price to people who absolutely love this genre of games but if you wait until the game is on sale, that is more than fair. I will keep playing it from time to time and i will surely enjoy every minute of it.

The game's better than before, much better. It took eons and a lot of abandonment because of side projects that were even more trashy and expensive, but this game is finally a bit fun and interesting, with quite some stuff added. I did enjoy it to some extent. However, I still have a lot of criticism. I'll start with two things I generally don't do when reviewing, and that's considering the price and comparing the game to other games. Yet in this case, it's impossible to overlook. As of now, for what it is, 20€ is quite expensive, especially comparing it to games of the same genre like The Long Drive, or my personal favorite, Jalopy, which were both released before this game, are both cheaper, and far better in every aspect, by a wide margin. This game combined these aspects of both games but didn't execute them quite as well and made them less interesting. This game offers a variety of features. Multiple locations, types of cars, parts, accessories, and items, which make the gameplay interesting to a certain point. However, the point where the game becomes dull is reachable pretty fast, especially with the crappy randomizer. What I mean is: I always got the same set of buildings quite a lot when travelling, while on the other end, it took me 8hrs of playing to see a new type I haven't even seen yet. Same with the vehicles. At least for me, it was very rare to find a new vehicle, and by that time I had already found nearly all the car parts there were to try out. And thus, the gameplay started to get repetitive very fast. Just travelling around the same 4 locations over and over and hoarding items to sell, just to get the best engine there is, to try it out for 5 minutes, in the end not even being all that interesting in the end and worth that time and effort, and I'm not gonna play for 8 more hours just for a slim chance to find a new car that I'd drive for like 10 minutes tops. With all that said, and my hand down on the Bible, this game did get better. I still don't respect the steep price for a game that was getting abandoned multiple times before even leaving early access, while with more focus and ambition put towards it it could've reached this state way sooner and could've even be better by this point. But I'm leaving a positive review since the game is functional, has at least 4 hours of enjoyable gameplay, nice music, and I really do believe it can be pushed further to match its price.

I'll be blunt with it; this game is kind of boring. And if I'm being so deadass? Sometimes that's what I need. Whenever i'm having a really bad depressive episode, or when no games feel fun, I play Under the Sand. Because it isn't exactly fun, but it's calm. It'll steady my mind, a mindless task that requires little effort-- and sometimes that's exactly what I need. It truly is just a driving simulator. It replaces the noise in my mind with the sound of an engine revving and the random cassettes you can find. And I love it for that. Also it's pretty.

It's a very chill/relaxing experience. You drive around, customize/upgrade your car, chill to music, and loot. The only horror is not managing your needs and accidentally flinging your car off a broken road. I bought this game in 2019 before all the newer updates, I'd have to say in 2025 it is very enjoyable and much more improved. I look forward to how it continues to develop in the future.
