I had a very strong negative reaction to the story. I'm recommending this game because its technically sound, thick with well-crafted vibes, and able to get an emotional reaction out of me, even if its not the reaction the developers probably intended. Lily played stupid games and won stupid prizes. I have no sympathy for someone who intentionally sabotaged people who cared about her, and I think Lily was a terrible parent.
Yes, I 100%-ed a cleaning game. No, I don’t need help.
A game about cleaning dust has no business being this emotional (or this good). I picked up Undusted: Letters from the Past after a friend’s glowing review , and I’ll admit I doubted her when she wrote she got teary on this game. Then I found myself sobbing over a virtual trinket. This title somehow turns dusting into a touching story about memory, loss, and connection, all wrapped in a cozy, pressure-free experience that feels like self-care in game form. Visually, it’s a warm, colorful delight. Each item you clean carries a story from the protagonist’s past, and while none of the narrative is particularly original, it's told in such an intimate way that it really hits home. The music fits perfectly, guiding you through the emotional beats without overdoing it, and the accessibility option to click instead of hold the mouse is a literal wrist-saver. I also loved the little secrets and Easter eggs scattered throughout, which give extra depth to the world and make every minute of dusting feel intentional. If you’re like me and choose to use only the toothbrush and sponge (for peak “slow living” vibes), the game becomes a real calm and relaxing meditative experience. Cleaning perfectionists will enjoy that you don’t need to reach 100% on every object… but good luck resisting the urge (especially if you are a completionist that wants to hoard all the achievements). Past a certain point, the game even helps you by showing which dusty corner you missed, and it never penalizes you for using hints. On the downside, the whole experience is short (around 3 hours), even shorter if you use all the tools, and one of the achievements (you’ll know which one) feels grindy compared to the rest. Certain dust patches are also nearly invisible against specific colors (so, yes, realism achieved I guess?). Oh, and there’s a hidden 17th object you can miss if you're too hasty. You’ve been warned. Despite those tiny flaws, Undusted completely charmed me. It scratches that same soft casual itch as Assemble with Care but hits harder emotionally. It’s beautiful, soothing, and a cozy gem that’ll have you cleaning both objects and traumas. "Only in the darkest of nights can you discover the star hidden within..." You ever know you are going to like a game because it has quotes that just resonate with you? That's me with this game. It's so funny how I hate cleaning IRL. But virtual cleaning with a relatable story... I am so there, sponge in hand and all!! If you like Powerwash Simulator, I think you will like this game. I personally enjoy the core foundation of Powerwash Sim but found the tasks to be too overwhelming on solo play. This game is a much more simplified, less daunting take on a relaxing cleaning sim. But it is also so much more than that. In this game you follow the main character, Adora, as she cleans through dirty items and shares with you the memories that go along with them. As the story progresses, you discover an array of cleaning tools to get the job done right. I enjoy how after a certain cleaning point, you unlock the ability to see parts where you have missed, almost like an x-ray vision. The controls allow for you to clean while rotating the item which made for smooth gameplay. At 99% there is even an option for a 'quick clean' if you don't want to spend the time cleaning the more intricate spots. This game gave me both the warm feels and teary eyes. Adora thinks she lacks courage because she is scared to go back and visit a place full of memories. But courage doesn't mean that you aren't scared. Courage means that despite that fear, you continue to push forward. And you get to journey with Adora as she does just that. This is a charming bite sized game, with a touching story and a zen cleaning sim experience. I was able to complete the story in 2 hours but I don't feel like it needed any more time to get the heartfelt message across. It was honestly perfect and the cleaning felt very satisfying.
