This was a really, REALLY fun ride throughout. The visuals were beautiful, I loved the themes, the interactables, how modern everything felt without feeling forced in. The modern language for example did not feel out of place at all. This was a great work, start to finish, and I am really hoping for more from the studio in line with this game, as it has become very special to me. To make the game even better, leave a lot more of the hypothesis. Coming up with and actually trying to figure out what happened myself was a huge appeal to me. I loved reading the book too, and if this game was expanded upon in the future I'd buy 10 copies

I'll be honest - this game's moment to moment gameplay is annoying. Everything takes too much time and button presses. Game often treats you like an ADHD kid unable to solve basic mysteries in multiple account. After each small section game pauses everything and makes you answer a couple of basic understanding questions, like "Who was the guy I was speaking with?". At least it actually improves understanting, from what I've noticed. The game would really benefit from being a couple of hours shorter. It starts very slowly, then gets better with more complicated mysteries. And yet I'm still recommending this game. This game is art. It made me think about topics I don't usually think about, and look at things in a new light. Multiple times in the game I went "People don't talk and act like that" just to go to social media and discover that, in truth, people talk and act like that. Of course, with some allowance for artistic exaggeration. I loved the characters and overall intrigue. I usually dislike games with Scooby-doo bullcrap "Was this really paranormal? (Probably not)" and especially when it's combined with an unreliable storyteller , but this game managed to avoid some pitfalls of this concept. I've notice that Hakabunko carefully uses mystical in their works. Don't be deterred by the comments about the bizzare ending. Despite it, the game gives you a proper final, resolves mystery in a satisfying way, and answers *most* of your questions. It may be worth noting that characters in this game sometimes pass their opinions as facts, which complicate the matter. Art is absolutely beautiful despite limited resolution and color pallet. The game's soundtrack is both in my personal playlist and D&D playlist, which says something. There are some concepts that were clearly very hard to translate from Japaneese, so from time to time you may want to go and read online about things mentioned in the story. English version tries to explain them, but the translators clearly had very limited space to do so. Also you have to realize the amount of social pressure in Japanese society and it's strong social hierarchy. I want to tell much more, but I'm afraid that I'm already spoiling it, so I'll stop. Give it a try. It's not too expensive. UPD: I have to mention that it's not a detective game nor a puzzle game, it's more of a visual novel. Don't come in with wrong expectations; mysteries mostly solve themselves as you follow the story. The rewarding part is trying to solve them ahead of time, as the game isn't really hiding it's clues. There is only one mystery when the solution felt like it came out of nowhere, but it may be a me problem.

This is a woefully underrated detective game starring Azami Fukurai, a clairvoyant girl who can see ghostly "traces" of other people, as she becomes a part of the mysterious "Urban Myth Dissolution Center", which investigates the mysteries surrounding rumors and urban legends. Along the way, she'll meet a cast of strange characters and ultimately unravel a grand conspiracy surrounding the dark-web occult hub SAMEZIMA and its mysterious plans for a "Great Reset". In terms of gameplay, Urban Myth Dissolution Center is a simple visual novel where you click around to investigate various crime scenes, similar to an Ace Attorney (especially the Edgeworth games). Nothing groundbreaking on its own -- especially since there's no real penalty for coming up with a wrong answer -- but this game sets itself apart from the pack with its visuals. The graphics are a huge part of the appeal here: there's elaborate pixel art everywhere you look, from the characters' dialogue portraits to the "Dissolution" segments at the very end. The game also has a great story that encourages you to be as skeptical as possible, with all sorts of seemingly supernatural incidents (curses, parallel dimensions, etc.) that you'll pick apart with logic and debunk by figuring out how they actually happened. It's a novel concept that reminds me a bit of the witch trials in "Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright". The way information is disseminated through the Internet is also a central theme of the story, and you'll touch on topics like shady influencers, cancel culture, and corrupt individuals who try to manipulate the flow of information for their own gain. The world building in this game is awesome. They give you a little encyclopedia of urban myths that gradually fills up as you trawl through various social media threads while solving each case. There's a mix of superstitions/conspiracy theories pretty much everybody knows (Bloody Mary, lizard people, doppelgangers) and some surprisingly obscure ones (did you know that Ryomen Sukuna of Jujutsu Kaisen fame was based on a Japanese tall tale?). You even get a goofy reindeer mascot who speaks in puns. Deer me! So much to fawn over in this game! Overall, if you're a fan of mystery visual novels like Ace Attorney, Danganronpa, and Your Turn to Die, please do yourself a favor and play this game! And try out "Tyrion Cuthbert: Attorney of the Arcane" too, while you're at it!

Just a visual novel, very linear, but I really loved the visual style and music. So many games attempt this style but rarely pull it off this well, with the contrasting color palettes. Half of the game is reading chaotic online discussions, contrasting with the quiet and eerie on-site investigations. So it works very well at being a mystery thriller, ramping up into solving each case with a logical explanation... but is still a horror story where other things in the story get even weirder and creepier. Doing BOTH genres this well at the same time is very rare, and they both feel like they got a satisfying build-up and conclusion.

I got into this game expecting some sort of detective graphic adventure game. It's not what I got. It's more akin to a visual novel. The structure of the game is very linear, and doesn't present much challenge at all. That said, I really enjoyed the style, the music, the writing (although the translation is occasionally pretty cringe, with gen Z slang like "no cap" which will be old and lost in translation in 5 years, and there are some spelling mistakes here and there), and I really liked the ending. It's not a perfect game, by any means, but a solid 7, which I would recommend to people capable of looking past a couple plot holes if the story and characters are likeable enough. I would really like watching an anime based on this story.
