I played both staffer case and retro, and I enjoyed both games I think the character writing and the plot is better in retro But the deduction process is more enjoyable in staffer case All in all still an enjoyable experience I love chapter 3 a lot it’s really well done the art is also pretty lovely 9/10 would recommend this game 我玩過前作 覺得Staffer retro 的故事劇情和人物描寫做得更好了 不過推理方面我比較喜歡前作 整體來說還是很好玩的 由其第三章 真的寫的很好 挺推介的
so fun, saw some twists coming but not all of them! did not see act 4's ending coming, or verita being the one to write the document vering hid coming! i clocked the vero twist and verita writing the blueprint though! its always fun when theres things you do see coming because the game set up the clues for you, and even when you dont see something coming! the answer is always there i know a lot of people like games like case of the golden idol, but ive never really enjoyed fill in the blank mystery games. they always felt like you didnt even need to know or follow the story to solve them, but this game isnt like that. its mechanics are very fun, the art and style is awesome. i liked staffer case and staffer reborn too. this game actually grabs my attention and lets me use my brain which i love. a lot of mystery games ive played are kinda boring and have predictable twists. To anyone who's played Master Detective Archives: Rain Code i guessed the big ending in chapter 1 and then again almost as soon as the main guy for the end was introduced. it's not a "whodoneit" type game really (like the staffer case game), but you are solving cool mysteries. highly recommend to people who love a good mystery, a good game, and/or compelling characters. also i personally really loved the zoom feature (i have bad eyesight and minor dyslexia)
One of the coolest adventure VNs I've played in a long time. It expertly broadens the scope of the world set up by Staffer Case (something I found lacking in an otherwise tight investigation game), all while centering the interpersonal connections between its main characters. The mysteries are fun too, love the way it breaks the mold; it's not murders we are worrying about here (although they do show up) but questions about communities, about the past. Top this all off with pristine production values and voice acting, and it's bulletproof. Oh, did I mention it has one of the best romances I've seen in anything ever (somehow unintentionally?!?!). Close your eyes and take a step forward, I swear it will change you.
When it came to the first game of this series (Staffer Case), my thoughts were incredibly straight forward. It was a very solid premise, done well, and done with a surprising amount of focus and restraint. My recommendation for that game was simple, because it felt like the developers had taken an idea and reduced it down to its most concentrated state, with barely any fat left on the bone. It was a detective game, with the beats of its story told whenever the murder mystery paused to take a breath, and not for much longer. I can't talk about Staffer Retro in the same way. It is much more ambitious than its predecessors and places value in more aspects of its design. Despite its many improvements, it has lost some of the focus that made the original so refreshing for me. It is no longer a series of mystery cases with some overarching plot sprinkled throughout. It feels more like overt plot told within the context of a series of mysteries. It's bigger, and because of that I feel unsure on how to best present my recommendation. Because I do, still, recommend this game. First of all, it's gorgeous where it really counts. For most of the game, you'll see the same character portraits, but then you'll find these tiny pockets of gorgeous animation and artwork sprinkled throughout as a visual bookend to some major story beat, and it's just lovely. The writing is still great. It's clever, funny and devestating; all balanced well enough that the tone doesn't waver too much where it shouldn't. There are some minor localization issues, where the grammar gets a little funky, but not enough to be a problem. The puzzles are well done, and several of the game's reveals really do punch you in the gut. It's not quite as tightly constructed as Case was, but Case would also suffer in comparison to this game's character writing and presentation. TLDR; still a great puzzle game, now with more reading.
Played the demo during Steam Next Fest, and I really enjoyed it, so I ended up buying the full game when it was released. I'd say I LOVE it. The story, the theme, the animated sprites, etc., etc. I'm looking forward to the third installment. . . BTW, your demo save carries over to the full game, so you don't have to start from the beginning again. That's pretty nice.
