This game's a bit of a weird one. I thoroughly enjoyed it for the vast majority of my playthrough - the characters, the overall atmosphere, all the schemes throughout the city, for you to figure out... I was utterly enamoured! Unfortunately, the game manages to completely fall apart in the last hour or so. The genius schemes the Elders you previously feared had been cooking up throughout the entire game turned out to... not really make a whole lot of sense. The final sequence of events felt so abrupt and out of character - and without any choices for you, the player, to make throughout. It seems like it may have been put together in a rush and doesn't live up to the previously established standards... I'd still absolutely recommend Coteries of New York to any fan of Vampire: The Masquerade - especially those who consider the journey to be more important than the destination. Again, it was an excellent experience up until the final night. Just be aware that your story might not end in the most satisfying manner. And, to clarify, I'm not bemoaning that I didn't get a happy ending - those are rare to find in the World of Darkness and I never expected to get one. I'm bemoaning that the story ended in a way that felt like those around me had a massive collective brain fart.
two things weren't good. first, it's pretty annoying to keep attention on the bottom-left corner most of the time. backgrounds could balance the whole game screen, but they're boring. and second, the game takes too much time explaining basic VtM lore, and while it's good for newcomers, it takes a lot of patience for those who aren't. but. the mood is right, side quests are fun, characters are really great, wish there were more stories with them. and the main story ends up quite unexpected in a good way. maybe feels a bit rushed, but that's probably because of the long introduction into the world as i said. nice twist, a bit sad, but very much in VtM spirit.
