Mediocre game, but a brilliant movie. Much more serious themes (organized crime, corporate affairs, film industry) and much less romance than most FMV games. First-person view is used very, very sparsely, allowing for some regular camerawork, traditional direction, and great acting from the main roles. While most FMV novels feel like a student art project, this was clearly filmed by an experienced crew. Cinematography, framing, camera work, and particularly lighting are all used just as well as a proper movies do. I appreciate the tightly knit plot, perfect pacing, and even the soundtrack fits so well. A great variety of locations, costumes and a fairly large cast make it a really compelling movie. The game elements, navigating the flowchart and meeting progress conditions, are less developed than in similar titles. Exploring alternative routes is fun, but few of them induce lasting consequences. It's very easy to reach the finale, and most other routes are just "what ifs", with a lot of them presented as very valid alternative ends to the story, rather than incomplete conclusions. Overall, Vanity Fair is some proper cinema.

Ni Hao, Kai Lan. Don’t expect a game in the traditional sense—this is more like watching a solid C-drama unfold and nothing like a Telltale or Quantic Dream game. Only certain choices will push the story forward into later chapters, but the alternate paths and endings are interesting enough to make exploring worthwhile. Note: The short epilogue title cards are missing English translations for the Chinese text.

Finally achieved 100% achievements! Such a great game, good cast and overall, quality is so high. Branching paths and altering endings is a strong point here, and only little errors with the subtitles. Wish to see a sequel too.

ok, i am gonna give my most honest intake review on this. It was good, honestly not the best i played, it was honestly really sad and kinda angered me. and the best things of the whole game were basically He Xiaomeng, Guan Haiyue and Hemu. i recommend getting it if you have no expectation of romance because its gonna disappoint you if you do.
