To put it simply Virtua fighter 5 is one of the best fighting games ever made.... If you are a fighting game enthusiast, compared to your tekkens, street fighters and mortal kombats it has next to no single player content (this wasn't always true but it certainly is of VF5 REVO). And it significantly lacks any visually striking mechanics that would draw in people that wouldn't normally play fighting games like Street fighter's striking character design and surplus of arcade style mini games, Tekken's HUGE cast and story, or Mortal Kombat's fatalities (and again, story) This game has none of that, characters at least on the surface are quite dated and do not stand out very much when compared to other fighting games, especially the likes of Guilty Gear and other Arcsys titles where character design is absolutely top notch. What this game has in spades and more than any other fighting game is a formula that works and is executed to near perfection. While daunting from the outside looking in this game is many things, difficult to pick up isn't one of those. Compared to nearly all other fighting games this game has very few technically demanding inputs and only three buttons. The rules of the game's universal mechanic are clear cut and there's very little variance, unlike other 3D fighters (TEKKEN) evasion is a universal mechanic that operates on very simple rules. There are 3 types of attacks, linear, half circle, and full circle attacks. Linear attacks can be dodged by side stepping into either the foreground or the background, half circle moves track a single direction, and full circle moves cannot be sidestepped. This an immutable, universal rule. Doesn't matter how big or small your character is. If you dodged at the correct time you WILL dodge. This game is systemically consistent which gives players the option to really pick up the game with whoever they'd like. Additionally every single character in the game has a unique mechanic tied to them. Wolf has the only armored move in the game, Akira has a surplus of guard breaks, Aoi has a stance dedicated strictly to parrying her opponent. There's no super meter, no super moves, no special cancels, no projectiles, and no weapons. This is the only fighting game on the market that is pure hand to hand combat. There's no fluff, no system wide gimmicks like the drive meter or heat gauge in Tekken 8. Yet somehow without any of these extra mechanics to force a more aggressive playstyle. Virtua fighter is by far the most aggressive fighting game out there. How did they do this? Well there's a few things. Grabbing works differently, in virtua fighter you cannot be grabbed while in the active frames of an attack (outside of a few specific grabs intended to act as a shake up to this otherwise universal rule) This means that your opponent cannot grab you out of your pressure, but it ALSO means that if you correctly read that you are going to be grabbed you get to punish your opponent with a HUGE launcher. Yet throws are the fastest option in the game, this makes throws the strongest yet most volatile tool in the game. On top of this most characters have MANY options to get around blocking, dodging, and every single defensive tool you have at your disposal. Being too defensive is a DEATH sentence. Especially given that letting your opponent control you and push you to the edge either results in a ring out (Which is an instant loss) Or putting you against the wall, where all characters have access to a way to stagger you and break through your guard. I want to be clear defense is not weak in Virtua Fighter. But the only way to be effective at defense is to leverage guessing correctly with immediate offense, TLDR: Virtua fighter ain't fancy but its deep, complex, and so satisfyingly aggressive in a way no other game can match. And it really is the only "What if this martial art fought this martial art" Fighting game around. I cannot recommend it enough, if you like martial arts, play VF, if you like grounded fighting games, it literally does not get more grounded than virtua fighter, if you like well balanced, competitive fighting games? VF. If you like GOOD ass gameplay with no fluff, no annoying gimmicks, VF. It's not for everyone but I do recommend everyone try it. Its my favourite fighting game, Please VF6, don't take away what makes this franchise special.

This is, most definitely, a thumbs up; however, I have one key complaint. The pluses are that VF Revo is a fun game, which rewards skilful play and in-game knowledge. Virtua Fighter is also an absolute classic, and anyone with an interest in fighting games owes it to themselves to explore at least one of the iterations. As for my complaint, WHY would a game, which requires so much skill and knowledge, not have a re-play system for self-education? This a huge oversight, in my view, and very disappointing. I hope this will be rectified in the next, upcoming version. Why are more people not talking about this? Salty Kage player, struggling with the Goh match-up.

It's a good alternative to Tekken. Difficult if you are new to the series, but it is worth trying.

It's the definitive version of the game. Yes, it's lacking single-player content—I don't believe SEGA intended for R.E.V.O.'s audience to be of the single-player kind. You'll only be buying this game for the core Virtua Fighter experience; nothing more. If you're an old-school competitive fighting game player, you'll love it. However, if you're one of those that need story modes, world tours, and avatar customization, you should pass. R.E.V.O. is not for you.

Try this game if you miss Tekken or if you think an excellent netcode in a 3D game is not an esoteric concept People love to say VF is hard, but it's completely approachable, this game is good and fun as every game should be, now we wait for VF6,
