(Played on both PC and Steam Deck but completed on Steam Deck. The game worked wonderfully, no issues, great controls, ran perfectly.) It's hard to get my feelings out about this game. I beat it about a week or so ago and the more it has sat with me, the more it means to me and the higher my rating goes. The story isn't the most groundbreaking thing ever, but the themes being discussed and the way they're handled in such a human manner really makes for a touching experience that I don't often get from a piece of media, especially a puzzle game like this. Oh and yes, this is a puzzle game. If you don't know, the game is all about working at a record store and finding the record each customer wants based on their words, actions, and visual design. Sometimes you may not know much about a customer and it will be more difficult to suggest something to them, but other times you'll have a regular come in and you know the exact record to recommend. The game really rewards an employee that knows their stock, so the more you familiarize yourself with the records in the store the easier it is to figure out each "puzzle" or recommendation; and there's a lot to look at! Records have details all over them, like full song lists, release dates, record labels, band members, unique artwork (on the cover, back, & on the record itself), and sometimes even some hidden notes & letters. Ontop of all of that there's also an in-game social media and a music review website that both help with world building and puzzle deciphering. It's all extremely well done, all the puzzles feel really good once you figure them out, and the more you help a customer the more you learn about their story. And that's really where this game shines the most to me. I'll get to the music, which is also fantastic, and I just got over talking about how much I liked the puzzles, their implementation, and all the extras you can look through, but the story really touched my heart and made me just... feel. Did it make me really think deeply about concepts I'd not considered before? No, but I don't think every story needs to do that in order to be really good. This game made me feel connection and community even though I was sitting at home playing a single player puzzle game. It made me truly empathize with the characters, their issues, and made me want to make it all better. It made me want to go out into my own community and become a part of the music scene, just to feel that connection and make those same positive influences on people. It made me think about my own sister, who I'm not speaking to, and think to myself "Will I truly grow old before we mend this nonsense?" because I thought the same about the two women in this game. What I'm saying, in a messy kind of way, is that this game really made me feel emotions, and feel them authentically. I was so happy recommending things to people and wanted to keep doing it so they would leave in a good mood. I was mournful for those in the game dealing with loss and wanted to mend their hearts with music. I was angry at the companies taking advantage of normal people just trying to create and live and love. I was sad that things ever went poorly for the people I cared about around me and just wanted to be there for them. I was content and at peace when I could spend the evening with my friends, listening to the local bands. I felt betrayed when a singer wasn't as authentic as I thought they were. This game is just so immensely human . It's beautiful. That's not even to mention the music, which is just phenomenal and there are no more words than that. Mostly composed by one person, though there are guest tracks, you would never guess because every single song by a new band sounds drastically different and embodies the genre of the band it claims to be from. Unlocking new songs and getting to listen to them throughout the work day was such a treat and I immediately bought the OST on Steam so I could keep listening to once I finished the game. Every track is so lovingly crafted and honestly a complete banger. That's the entire experience, at the end of the day; wonderfully, beautifully, lovingly crafted. You can feel the passion in every single connecting bit that makes this game run. From the art to the music to the story to every bit of writing that makes up the social media pages, this all has such passion and love poured into it and it makes for a truly great experience. I highly recommend checking this out, and make sure to have some headphones on or the music turned up so you can hear it! Thanks to the developers for sharing this part of your soul with me; experiencing it made me a better person. I hope my sister and I can patch things up, too. Extremely cozy and charming game. You can really feel the love and passion these devs have for record stores and the music scene. Cannot recommend enough. I love that they actually recorded songs for many of the records featured in the game, so you get to experience the records you recommend to customers. Also much respect for the left-leaning anti-corporate message of the game and the inclusion of the Trans flag and Palestine flag.

Look, lets get it out of the way: Your enjoyment of this game is going to depend entirely on your ability to deal with extremely (i hate to use this term but) tumblr-core social justice brained writing. If one of your co-workers going "Socialism slaaaaay" or on a rant about gentrification makes you want to explode, you will not be able to play this game. ...Which would be a shame, because I find it quite charming. The game is so chocked full of art and ideas and gags that even though some annoyed me it was never more then a few seconds before i found another one I giggled at. For every bit of character art I disliked, there were 5 funny album arts that I was talking with my partner about and trying to review. For every song I thought was kind of generic, they had... well they had the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ post void theme on the juke box so ♥♥♥♥ yes. I guess the point is that a lot of the times that sort of social justice focused writing fails for me is because it can feel forced, like they're trying to get you to like them because they're doing what's Right and Correct, that it can lack or get in the way of an amount of sincere love. But if there's one thing i believe about this game, it's that they sincerely love music, that they're exactly as obsessed with it as the characters of the game are and I am specifically. And that'll keep me coming back. Well, that and a genuinely fun puzzle gameplay loop that also lets me look at a customer and go "so both you and the game are trying to get me to give you a child-friendly chill album but i AM going to give you that punk record you SHOULD become a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ punk weirdo about it", which is the dream. If that appeals to you, if you like music and record collecting, and if you can stand writing that i find a biiiit too handholdy and social justice 101-y, then you'll have a great time with this one.

The music alone is such a great reason to pick up this game. Honestly, indie games like these really keep the world turning. The obvious attention to detail and care put into it was fantastic. I wish I could play this again for the first time

as someone who loves collecting vinyl records irl, this game is perfect for me! it’s super cozy and immersive, and gameplay-wise it’s kinda like strange antiquities / horticulture / tiny bookshop but for records. i love the amount of detail in this game, like every album has its own unique description and pressing, there are backstories for the artists / bands, and the characters have lots of personality too! it also runs really well on the steam deck and the buttons are mapped very intuitively
