Great action puzzle game, super weird and creative. It even has a level creator, albeit with extremely unintuitive controls. This is something my kid and I have come back to every few weeks since completing it shortly after release. But the devs committed the cardinal sin of ongoing game development: they removed seemingly-permanent content. The event/holiday levels never expired... until they did. But considering the constant flow of community-made content and the frequent new official content, there's always a reason to come back, even if you can no longer play your favorite Halloween level.

This is a great casual game that's really fun to play in short bursts, but it can be a bit of a mixed bag. Level structure is very effective and new themes (sports, work, sandstorm, water) keep the player intrigued, as do the various gimmicks on display. Triband's interpretation of 'racing' is very unserious so you'll occasionally find yourself controlling a car with heels, a car that's part helicopter or even a car with shark fins, but if you've got even an inkling of competitive spirit it'll end up being in the pursuit of a coveted gold medal finishing time - which can become very serious - and this is where the difficulty comes in. While most levels in What The Car are very generous with their timed goals, the 'skull' levels up the ante in a way that can initially feel like rage-bait. "Wheels on fire already Mom's Spaghetti' and 'The Rude Sandstorm' in particular can be very punishing but ultimately rewarding. That said, I can see why people would grow frustrated and find these challenges unfair and unenjoyable. Upon completion, What The Car still offers a plethora of community levels with fully integrated leaderboards, and Triband is actively seeking player feedback about new levels, so if that's not commitment to entertainment I don't know what is. The only thing missing for a game like this is co-op/multiplayer.

You ever play a racing game and think, Wow, this is way too predictable? Well, What the Car? heard you—and then completely lost its mind. This isn’t just a driving game. It’s a ridiculous, physics-bending, laugh-out-loud journey where your car sometimes has legs, sometimes has jetpacks, and sometimes... just decides to be a horse. I don’t know why. I don’t need to know why. One second, you're cruising along like a normal car (kind of), and the next, you’re flailing your way through an obstacle course, questioning if wheels were ever really necessary. This game doesn’t just think outside the box—it kicks the box off a cliff and does a celebratory dance on the way down. 10/10, would drive a car with human legs again.

Its certianly another What The game in its wackiness and simple controls, but theres just less variety than Golf or even Bat. theres still a good few forms of the car with legs tho like jetpack or shark. they just get reused a lot. the world map is the best part tbh because you can explore these charming areas to progress in the order you choose, or freely walk off the path to find silly dialouge, lil sidequests and secret hard levels. (most of which are actually reasonable) the world map also has a lot of community levels placed in it which is a cool concept but: why would i want to play a level some random player made when i could instead play a level the actual devs of the game made? (i also feel like this focus on a level editor made the game less varied.) overall there is actually a lot to do, but i started losing interest after the credits. was still a good time tho. nice car.

God this game has finally been freed from mobile exclusivity. Not only was it limited to phones, but it was also exclusive to iPhones and iPads specifically. But at last, we’re dining well tonight. I am a huge fan of the WHAT THE series, and I never miss a new game from them and WHAT THE CAR? is no exception. Like the store description says (and I’m not going to reinvent the wheel here), it’s an absurdly silly adventure full of bite-sized levels, each varying in playstyle and theme. You play as a little car that regularly receives new forms, so the gameplay stays fresh. Grinding for the highest scores and medals might take some time and patience (and might even lead to a bit of gamer rage), but overall they don’t matter unless you’re one of those weird achievement hunters. This game runs pretty well on my favorite handheld AKA Steam Deck and that’s all that matters. I can’t recommend it for purchase enough and for my final sentence ill just say VIVA LA PC AND STEME please make a WHAT THE FUСК game next / 10
