8/10: I’ve got mixed feelings about this one. It’s tagged as an ‘idle’ game, but it’s really not idle at all. it needs way more hands on attention. I ended up trying it on my steamdeck (which isn’t fully supported), and somehow got hooked anyway. xD It honestly felt like I was playing a mobile game, constantly checking on my newly bred whimlings. Even though it’s not truly idle, it does require a lot of patience due to the whole whimling breeding mechanic. You’ll need specific combinations to progress through certain objectives, so expect a bit of trial and error. If you’re looking for an idle game, this probably isn’t the right fit~ but if you enjoy creature breeding and slow burn progression, try this game.
I finished it (100% achievements) in about 12.5 hours. Pros: - Art style is adorable, loved it. The rare palettes in particular were gorgeous - Breeding is fun, collecting is fun - Sound effects and notifications are useful Cons: - Can't escape the overlay UI, even if you would prefer a full screen option - UI is sometimes laggy or unresponsive. I had to wait for clicks to process sometimes - No option for customizing controls - Not all animals have full sets of parts. You just have to make do with what exists - There is only one clickable decoration you can place in your garden, the ball. Wishlist: - I wish I could have a full-screen option that let me see all or more screens at a time - I wish the Left/Right arrow keys worked on scrolling other screens than the biomes - I wish I could have different zoom levels for different screens (eg zoomed out for breeding and zoomed in for biomes) - I wish the field you could decorate and pets you can, well, pet, did more.
I agree with reviews regarding the 1-2 hour setup time, followed by a decent idle game experience. I had no issues with that, I enjoyed collecting the cute animals and combining traits to make pets for my garden. My main issues: -Needs more content. I competed the game pretty quickly. It did not take me long to unlock the limited areas, animal types, and shop items/upgrades. I want more! More biomes, animals, cosmetics... -Progression was meh and the game economy was unbalanced. It was VERY fast to essentially have infinite of the gems currency to buy things with... with A LOT of surplus that goes nowhere, so it did not feel very satisfying. Like why do I have almost 500,000 gems rn and most items cost around 500-1000 lol. I did not have to save up or think about using my gems since I already had way too much within a few hours of idle play. Overall cute, simple game that needs some improvements and expanding. I do love seeing my lil garden display while working on my pc. :)
