INCREDIBLE but... With 5 hrs of gameplay as I type this, this game is beautiful to wind down and play as a cozy game. I really wish the plant limit would increase given the amount of space we have, we are stopped from fully developing our gardens. Additionally, we neeeeed more plant variants. PLEASE update! Just adding in these two would encourage more cozy gamers to fully immerse and enjoy this game to the potential that it has. The cozy genre is growing and this gardening game could really be the best of the best if there was further updates with improvements and add ons. 🥹💓
I do want to love this game entirely. I love it but there are things that would make me love it from start to finish. Yes, loads of things to keep you busy with the orders and pavillion as well as finished the big checklist. What it lacks is the allowance to grow ALL of the flowers and fill this enormous garden you have to work with. The plant limit seems unreasonably low for the amount of room there is to work with. Sure, bigger decorations would fill things in and there's plenty of climbing plants to cover things but I want a full garden of plants myself. Still, I have been enjoying it a great deal. Nice and easy going. No time pressure overall is lovely.
Overall, if you are looking for a beautiful, cozy, creative game, this is a great one. I've seen some surprisingly harsh reviews, and I'm sorry for those who did not get a good experience, but I personally have not had any issues with crashes and have gotten a lot of joy out of the game. It is one of the most beautiful games I've played with both free creative play as well as meaningful story. What you get out of this game, I think, depends a lot on your initial expectations. I think it is most enjoyable as a slow burn, played causally with a heavy dose of free creative play as opposed to pursuing the entire questline up front. Actually, it is difficult to pursue only quests because plant discovery is organic, slow and random, as you cultivate your garden. Even if you complete the story quickly, to me, there is a lot of replay value just in the open creativity it offers to continually recreate your garden. I will say something most aggravated me at first that I've seen in a lot of other reviews is the plant limit. Yes, there is a plant limit in a garden game. However, the devs explained that the limit is for PC performance (understandable). There was a patch to increase the limit in the settings. Though it did frustrate me because I wasn't expecting the limit at first, I just adjusted my plans because my whole goal for this game was just ambiance and casual creation. It wasn't a big deal to me to rearrange areas of my garden, and it also felt like a fun challenge to work within the limit but still accomplish the garden I wanted. There is also a separate decoration limit, which I am far from reaching, so I think it would have been nice to have a combined limit instead, but I doubt that the burden is the same for static decorations compared to the mechanism behind the flowers. I'm not sure if there are any future updates. I think it would be nice to have more plant types released or seasonal stories, just because I enjoy what the devs have created, but I also just enjoy it as a completed game. I've become so used to seeing continuous seasonal updates and DLC releases in games that it has become an expectation, now, to get more content, but that doesn't have to be the case for all games (it wasn't the case at all "back in my day"). Whether there is future content, or just the game as it stands, I think it is delightful and worth getting if you enjoy casual, cozy creation and enchanting ambiance.
I started Garden Life thinking, “Finally, a peaceful game. No running, no explosions, no enemies. Just vibes.” Two minutes later I’m arguing with a virtual flower because it refuses to grow straight and the game politely suggests I “try watering it.” Thanks, Garden Life. Real subtle. This game basically says: “Relax… …but also, here’s a plant that will absolutely die if you even look at it wrong.” Planting? Cute. Decorating? Calming. Watering? Therapeutic. Me? Accidentally drowning my tulips like I’m trying to recreate the Great Flood. Peak Garden Life moments: • You place a pot slightly crooked and spend 15 minutes fixing it like it’s a crime scene. • You proudly grow your first flower… then immediately forget to tend the rest of your garden. • You spend hours organizing dirt. Yes, dirt. And it feels amazing. Somehow the game manages to be both chill and mildly stressful in the funniest way. You’re basically running a tiny plant kingdom where everything depends on your questionable gardening skills. And honestly? It’s cozy, charming, and dangerously addictive. One minute you’re planting daisies, the next you’re rearranging your entire garden at 3 AM like it’s a renovation show. 9/10 Would overwater my plants again.
