I just finished Mortal Difficulty. I want to start with what kept me playing despite the difficulty and some questionable game design decisions. If you like variety in your 2D platformer, this has it in spades. As for the worlds/levels, each of them offers a variety of challenges in such a way that no 2 rooms feel the same. So there isn't really a difficulty spike within the world. It is more about anticipating or dreading the next challenge different from the last. The bosses are about the same caliber. They are all unique with their own gimmicks. That way the game never feels stale. Now the difficulty. There are 0 knockbacks when you hit an enemy. This is probably the main difficulty issue when you have faster mobs combined with tricky platforming. Fortunately, the platforming alone is not insanely hard and most of the levels do not involve platforming with mobs. Basically a very bumpy ride to the boss. About the controls, I'm not a fan of the fact that each game specific actions doesn't have their own specific buttons. It is a very annoying inconvenience, but also a forgivable one, since the controls are mostly very tight and responsive, a bit like celeste. So in the end, if you love platformers and want a unique and different experience, I highly recommend this game.

I just beat this game after playing it off and on for years. I started on Mortal mode and stuck with it although in retrospect, it might have been better to do an Angel playthrough first. The last boss took me over 21 hours and 1200 deaths (over a couple months). There are so many challenging parts, but every time I hit a wall, I was able to overcome it with enough practice and patience. I love everything about it and it's definitely one of my proudest gaming achievements, even if no one else understands it except the few who have personally experienced it.

A beautiful precision platformer from the creator of the legendary I Wanna be the boshy. The restart button is here for a reason, you'll be pressing it more often than using the attack button. Difficult but interesting boss fights, unique locations and obstacles, all this can be found in this game.

One of the most deliciously frustrating games I've ever played. While incredibly difficult, I found myself dedicated to this game when I was in high school a decade ago. Every loss made me want to try harder. It kept bringing me back. The movement in this game just feels good. It's tight yet fluid. Combat is hard as hell, but over time you get better and better. I would highly recommend this game to anyone seeking a serious challenge. If you're more of a casual/cozy gamer this game might not be for you
