Okay, so keep in mind this review is based off completing all the achievements, including very hard mode. This game is simple and fun. You essentially are doing the same thing everyday, but there are variations you can choose for your shop, including multiple modes. My first playthrough was on hard mode and it was super easy to understand. On very hard mode I kept losing and got so frustrated until I wanted to scream. Then I figured out how important specialization actually is. The game throws 5 different specializations at you, and you can get access to them all. To beat very hard mode I specialized in three, but I imagine you can just focus on one and get the same result. Your shop will get more customers based off you only selling specific things. So keep that in mind if you are an achievement hunter. Overall, super fun. Will buy the second game for sure. ^^

Scratches the shopkeeping itch pretty well, gameplay wise I recommend it, especially at the price I wouldn't fault it its' shortcomings. I also really liked that I can chill and play it with a controller on my TV, pretty rare luxury with management style games, that's what made me buy it in the first place. Just FYI for achievement hunters: The 200 tiles achievement was a nightmare due a bug/oversight though (if you remove tiles you've purchased to get the money back, the next time you buy that same tile it'll be more expensive as if you've already bought it. I only noticed with the last 2 unfortunately, probably what made things so painful), also this achievement is not doable in the small map, that was very annoying why make a map size whose only function is to lock you out of an achievement? Do yourself a favor and only use the large map.

I great example of a game that stayed in scope, and did everything in it well. I ignored AAA titles all week to play this. @Devs I am excited to see the squeal. Things I loved: Stock limits, made a good challenge. Item and material quality Space as a challenge Some stuff I would love to see. - Visual changes when I upgrade my displays. - Staff / Customers with quirks - More items to craft. - More events, and better warning about them. - More RNG to encourage a second play though.

Winkeltje is a strategic game about running a shop. This is an incredibly straight forward game, and in a really, really good way. It knows exactly what it is, what it wants to be, and it offers a LOT of customization and a LOT of replayability. You can run a really great shop! IT TAKES A LOT OF WORK AND TIME TO GET THERE. It does not hold your hand, and it does not tell you how to play the game. You play it and discover that for yourself. The difficulties matter in this game. If you open a shop on easy, you're going to have a chill time. Any harder, and you've got debts to pay, insane events you can't control to get around, and the prices of products merchants carry is going to be VERY tenuous. You run a shop. This is the point of the game. If you want to fight monsters, this isn't that. If you want to use magic, this isn't that. If you want to romance people, this isn't that. You run a shop. This is a game in which you run a shop. You will start the game with a very basic shop. If you play a harder difficulty, you have debt you must pay off every so often. You can either try to be a jack of all trades- VERY difficult- or you can slowly pick a new focus for your shop and quit stocking some items. THIS GAME IS SMART. It will PAY ATTENTION to what you stock. Characters may request, for a while, items that you no longer carry, but as you tell them you don't carry it, they'll stop asking, and only request items you DO carry. You can be a shop that only sells crops. You can be a shop that sells cooked food. You can be a shop that only sells potions. You can be a shop that only sells blacksmithing items. You can be a shop that sells materials used to craft things, like iron, or wood, or leather. Whatever you decide to stock on your own, the game will take note of that, and that will become your specialty. There is an option to see what you have been specializing in within the game- I can't quite remember where, but it absolutely tracks that, and characters in game will start spending more. If events occur in which products become scarce, they cost more to buy from suppliers. You need to keep note of that, because if you need to buy way more expensive materials, you need to raise your prices. Buying from traveling merchants is VERY IMPORTANT and VERY GOOD. At times, you can absolutely save money by stocking up from traveling merchants, instead of using your materials and supplies. You can hire people eventually, but you'll need to make sure they're happy, or they won't work effectively. Keep checking how much they should be paid. At some point, they may be too high leveled and cost too much to keep happy. Let them go. Item quality will begin to matter to you. In the beginning? No. Later? Why the heck are you selling lower cost items- or worse, buying them? Stock up on as much high quality materials as possible, or make them. Watch your seeds evolve slowly over time, or your equipment, etc. It takes time, but you will suddenly blink after hours and find that you've filled the entire property and you've got an enormous store, all your own, that you earned yourself. Farming is the hardest specialty. You will never have enough inventory space. Weep. Upgrade. Weep again. Upgrade. Sob uncontrollably as ever upgrade to your store is overtaken by yet more storage upgrades. Your cat has one square foot of space to live in.
