Worms 1 is the primordial soup from which all wormy chaos evolved. Tiny pixel worms, turn-based carnage, and explosions that could crash your PC if too many pixels flew at once. Controls? Clunky. Aiming? Guesswork. UI? Ancient runes. But none of that mattered in the '90s—because back then, blowing up your friend with a poorly lobbed banana bomb was revolutionary. There’s barely any physics, maps are just weird blobs, and weapon variety is limited—but the core idea was solid enough to spawn a franchise that’s still crawling today. Play it now only if you’re feeling nostalgic—or want to remember how far we’ve come since “press space to wildly overcharge a bazooka and regret everything.”

Look, we all know Worms and how good it is. Im not gonna lie, I wont be playing it again when theres better versions out there like Worms Armaggedon, but this is gaming history, so you and I need to have on our libraries. Runs flawlessly on DOSBox on modern systems.

This is where it all started. The DOS game though outdated is still a treat to enjoy. Its sad that i missed to play this back then. But definitely recommended for the FUN. I also consider this to be the predecessor of Pocket Tanks. Definitely Recommended for the Nostalgia and where it all began!!!

Worms is the classic that launched the iconic franchise. It's a turn-based strategy game with teams of worms battling it out using a wild assortment of weapons—including hilarious ones like the banana bomb—where the last surviving team takes the win. While the game is fun, newer entries in the series have since refined the formula. The graphics and controls feel dated, which is expected from a 1995 game, and the AI can be frustratingly precise, pulling off near-impossible shots. The voice lines are still a highlight. The Steam store lists only English for the interface and voices, and while there's an option to change the language in the menu, it doesn't work. If you really want other languages, you can rename the .sfx files in the data folder to switch the voice language. The game runs smoothly on DOSBox, and I had no issues with functionality. I only played against AI, and it works fine for that, but from other reviews, it seems like remote play together doesn't function properly, which is a downside. I enjoyed it for the nostalgia, but unless you're a longtime fan, the newer games are likely a better experience.
