WRC 4: A Decent Rally Experience That Doesn't Go the Extra Mile Graphics & Visuals: 7/10 Holds up reasonably well for a 2013 game, and the damage effects add some nice detail. Overall, though, the presentation is plain and rarely impresses, especially next to the DiRT titles. Rally Experience & Stage Design: 6.5/10 The stages cover asphalt, snow and mud, but many feel generic. Even with the realistic settings, the experience lacks the intensity that would make each rally memorable. Driving Mechanics & Handling: 7/10 A decent balance between accessibility and simulation, with enough control to make the stages fun. It isn't deep, and the differences between surfaces and weather aren't always substantial. Vehicle Variety & Customization: 6/10 The car selection is limited for a dedicated rally game, and customization is restricted to basic tuning. The essentials are there, but it all feels modest. Career Mode & Progression: 7/10 A familiar climb from the lower categories to the top of the WRC. It works, but it's mostly one event after another and lacks personality. UI & User Experience: 7.5/10 Clean and easy to navigate. The polished, cinematic presentation sets expectations the simple gameplay underneath doesn't quite meet. Sound Design & Atmosphere: 6.5/10 The engine sounds and co-driver calls do their job, but the audio lacks impact and personality, and the stages can get repetitive. Multiplayer & Online Experience: 5/10 Online modes exist, but I haven't tested them properly, and finding other players is difficult today. Optimization & Performance: 7.5/10 Runs smoothly on my system with no major problems, though the modest visuals make that less impressive. Bugs & Stability: 6.5/10 Mostly stable, but minimizing the game, recording gameplay or playing background music can cause audio loss, freezes or crashes. Support, Updates & Long-Term Value: 6/10 There is little ongoing support, and newer entries in the series offer a more complete experience. Long-term value is limited. Final Thoughts WRC 4 is a decent, easy-to-pick-up rally game with some satisfying moments and a good official rally atmosphere. But the stages are generic, the car selection and customization are limited, and the career mode lacks personality. I didn't have a bad time, but it isn't worth recommending at full price. Unless you have a specific interest in this entry, I'd move on to WRC 8, WRC 9 or newer rally games. It's an acceptable stop along the road, not a destination. Final Score: 6.8/10 Verdict: Recommended A decent and accessible rally game that offers some enjoyable moments, but lacks the depth, variety and distinctive qualities needed to stand out.
Released in 2013, WRC 4 is over a decade old. It takes a few steps to make it work properly on modern systems. [*]For 2K or 4K monitors, go to C:\Users\(user name)\AppData\Roaming\Milestone\WRC4. Open the config.ini file and modify the width and height value to your monitor resolution. For 1080P, the launcher will do. [*]Open the game and the launcher will pop up. Set refresh rate to 59Hz and disable v-sync in video settings, otherwise some weird stuff like missing audio will happen. [*]Exit the launcher and open Nvidia control panel (or the AMD counterpart). In Manage 3D Settings, choose WRC 4 in program settings and enable v-sync there. Apply and exit. Now the game should run perfectly, at least in my case. Being a licensed game, WRC 4 was presumably designed to appeal to a broad audience, so it goes for a more accessible, arcade-style driving experience rather than realism: the roads are wide; you can cut corners pretty aggressively without hitting any obstacle; go too far off the track and the game will immediately send you back; and if you mess up, just rewind and do it again. WRC 4 is not as heavily assisted as The Crew and Need for Speed from around the same period, which have artificial forces to keep the cars in control, but the physics are still very forgiving. Sure, carrying too much speed into a corner can make you lose the rear, and braking too aggressively can lock up the wheels. But there is always plenty of grip, and the cars are easy to handle with some understeer. More importantly, even with all the assists off, simply lifting off and turning the wheel can scrub off a great amount of speed, making cornering almost effortless. As a Dirt Rally player who has gotten used to harsher and more demanding physics, playing this game feels like going back to kindergarten. The game has a clear progression path, from Junior WRC to WRC 3, WRC 2, and finally WRC. Junior WRC and WRC 3 are very boring because of how slow the cars are. You can often take 3-rated corners at full throttle, and braking is not necessary even on sharper corners. Turning the wheel and downshifting is usually enough as the cars automatically decelerate a lot when turning, to the point where they don’t have enough momentum for a handbrake turn at hairpins, which your co-driver often tells you to do. Fortunately, Junior WRC and WRC 3 are short. WRC 2 and WRC are longer, with WRC having the longest race with 13 events (each has 6 stages), and each event roughly takes 30 minutes to complete. Handbrake turns are much easier in WRC 2 and WRC, thanks to the cars having enough momentum to swing the tail. You start to have some proper rallying in these two classes because the cars have better pace and acceleration, less understeer, and are more tail-happy. They become more responsive, snappy and fun to drive, so you no longer sleepwalk through the whole race, going flat out most of the time. Instead, you actually need to manage the throttle and braking, take the proper driving line, and keep the car stable and under control on winding roads. WRC 2 and WRC are enjoyable for being able to provide some challenge without ever becoming difficult due to its forgiving physics. There are some drawbacks, though. Tarmac, snow, different types of gravel, dry or wet surfaces - they all feel pretty much the same to drive on, which is probably the biggest weakness of the game. Car sounds are terrible too, and even though some are better than others, most of them sound like very aggressive vacuum cleaners. Visibility can also become a problem when the car takes enough damage, with some tracks being particularly hard to see due to their similar color palette to the surrounding terrain. Additionally, there is no legit way to unlock online achievements anymore, since the server was shut down long ago. If you come to terms with it not being the most realistic rally game, there’s more to like about WRC 4. It has more locations to race on than Dirt Rally 2.0, and you don't have to spend time learning and tuning your cars because they all work fine right out of the box. Unlike the latest F1 games, there are no strange RPG elements like drivers and teams having different stats, nor is there any boring team management stuff incorporated into the game. Players just drive, and that simplicity is pretty much appreciated. For the most part, I actually quite enjoyed my time with this game, despite being a longtime Dirt Rally player who prefers more realistic physics. For those who want a taste of rally without being crushed by difficulty and steep learning curve, this is a good place to start, and it is dirt cheap on sale.

The career mode is surprisingly engaging, letting you work your way up through the ranks while managing your team and sponsors. It’s not the newest title out there and it may not have the graphical polish of newer titles, but it still delivers a rally experience that’s both thrilling and rewarding.
Actually, very fun, I am comparing it to my favourite arcade rally games like dirt 3 and 4, which are amazing(not available anymore tho). This is a great alternative although it lack a lot of features that dirt 4 offers but what can you do if you can't buy it anymore? Buy this masterpiece. For those who have audio glitch, try to turn on V-Sync, or cap fps. helped me. BUT GOD THERE ARE SO MANY HAIRPINS
