Hey Wrench team i really like this game and played almost 190 hours but there are some problems in the game 1. Especially in some parts of the vehicle, the installation of some things is not realistic for example valve springs , in real life you should compress them with a valve spring compressor before putting it in place and put the valve retainer. but in game you are making this work with just a magical touch or another example changing the shock absorbers: again in real life you should use a shock absorber compressor to change it. but in game you are making this with just a magical touch as well. 2.The other problem is yes, okay, the structure of the engine is really really very detailed, but we can only disassemble and reassemble the engine, for example, I would adjust the timing of the engine, adjust the idle rpm with the cas adjuster bolt ,etc. 3. the last electrical system update was great i have liked it a lot and a lot the only thing missing is the crank sensor that i have noticed it would be great if you add it as well. 4.the amount of hoses in the game is really really low and this makes the engine bay doesnt looks like a real engine bay. it doesnt matter what you add to game you should add lots of hoses lots and lots(especially more vacuum hoses, brake lines, water hoses, and especially the FUEL hoses!) not only 2 vacuum and 3 water hoses and this is the most important step for making engine bay more complicated. those are the problems that i have encountered i hope you(wrench team) see my comment and give a feedback about my words. Im wondering for your opinions.

I feel I need to preface this review with this: No, this game is not abandoned. The game hasn't been "updated" in 3 years because Steam only tracks updates on the "Main" build of the game, but the devs have been pushing updates to the Beta branch instead of the main branch. This is due to the fact that the devs decided to rebuild the game entirely in order to change the direction of the core game play loop, and they didn't feel it would be fair to push the ground-up-rebuild to the main branch until the game loop was closer to completion. That being said, my review is based on my experiences with the game on both the main branch (pre-rebuild) and the beta branch (after rebuild). I'll start off by saying that this game is as immersive as you can get when it comes to the mechanic sim experience. Thanks to photogrammetry and 3D scanning, the individual car parts are so insanely crisp and detailed that you'll forget you're looking at a game. The screenshots are exactly what the game looks like. You actually feel like you're building a car. That being said, you'll need to have a pretty good understanding of how cars work to play this successfully. There's not much in the way of hand-holding at the moment. There are repair guides in the game that can roughly take you step-by-step through several of the procedures, but the game allows you to make mistakes, and the mistakes you make affect the car in a way that makes sense. However, this doesn't mean you have to be a certified mechanic, either. The game play loop on the main branch, at least the last time I played the main branch, was you are a mechanic for a race shop. Starting out, you're tasked with basic maintenance needs for customers, such as fluid changes, tire replacement, or brake replacement (yes, you have to bleed the brake system, too). As you level up, you'll be tasked with more demanding and complex tasks, such as timing chain replacement (including getting the timing correct), or piston replacement. Save up enough, and you can then buy a car of your own. After you've taken care of the mechanical needs of the car, you'll go to the track and simulate a race session. The performance of the car is determined by many factors, most of which is the condition of the parts on your car, as well as how well you reassembled and torqued down everything. During the race, you wait in the pit box and can monitor the performance of the car, as well as receive feedback from the driver. If there's a mechanical issue, you can pit the car and set about repairing it during the race, assuming you brought replacement parts with you (preparation is key). After the race, you'll return to the shop to do it all over again. This game play loop is not 100% complete and probably never will be. In the Beta branch, they are still working on the game play loop, and it's pretty bare-bones currently. At this time, you'll be at a house in a neighborhood and you'll have a garage with a little project car to work on. The idea is that you'll get to be like a weekend shade-tree mechanic, swapping parts in and out of your project cars, doing engine swaps, or even building a car from a bare chassis. At this time, there's no end game, no objectives, no economy, etc. It's just a sandbox playground for car nerds. The benefit to the Beta branch, however, is that there are a lot more features to the cars, making them highly immersive. This recent Beta update introduced electrical systems, meaning the cars now have flexible, physics-based wiring harnesses and connectors that you'll be tasked with installing and plugging in, something I have never seen before in a game of this genre. As far as interactivity goes, all of your tools are physical objects that exist in your garage, meaning you could have dozens of wrenches, sockets, screwdrivers, and drills scattered all over if you're not organized. You can interact with all of them, and they can all interact with each other, as well. As a bonus, you can also throw tools across the garage, just like in real life. Performance is pretty decent at this stage, but there are still some instances of frame drops. The devs are aware and do work towards optimizations. Controls take some getting used to, but they're not bad. Mouse and keyboard works very well. Devs have taken the time to come up with good ways for players to easily manage all of the small parts that make cars stay together. I have tried VR on Meta Quest 3, which is crazy immersive, but I did struggle with the controls a bit, but probably didn't give myself enough time with them to get used to it. To conclude, the dev team is small, and their ambitions are big. That is to say, development is pretty slow. Just something to keep in mind. However, if you're a car nerd and want something chill, immersive, and satisfying to play, this is your game. There is simply nothing else like it on the market today. Be assured that the devs have not abandoned the game. They do work it frequently and share tidbits and sneak peeks on their Discord often. Given the current bare-bones state of the game play loops, I'd give this title a "Recommended but get it on sale" for now.

disassembled the engine and placed all the parts on the ground neatly. then i removed the oil pan cover and placed it on the ground and the physics bugged out. all the little parts fly around the garage with high velocity. i mean that's not realistic: throwing around the parts should come after i became enraged, not before!

Worked for 7 hours 45 minutes rebuilding the bottom end of an engine. It took that long because I replaced the head gasket then rebuilt it only to realize I didn't have to, then after I rebuild everything, I find 2 bolts. I want to kill myself. 10/10 would suffer again.

If you've ever wanted a hands-on, hyper-realistic car-building experience without the frustrations of real-world mechanics, Wrench is your game. As someone with hands-on experience working on cars, I was immediately struck by the game’s accuracy—down to the finest detail. The engine, based on a 2000 Mazda Miata, is superbly modeled, and even the in-game cars draw inspiration from the Bauer Catfish, making it feel like you’re working on a unique custom build. Wrench stands out because it teaches you nearly every detail of building a car from the ground up. From tightening bolts to assembling complex engine parts, the game doesn’t shy away from the intricacies, but it leaves out some of the annoying real-life hurdles. There’s no need to deal with the weight of heavy parts, worry about seized bolts, or bother with silicone joining parts and applying Loctite on bolts. Instead, Wrench lets you focus on the craftsmanship and satisfaction of piecing together a vehicle, making it an enjoyable yet educational experience for enthusiasts and newcomers alike. In future updates, it would be exciting to see Wrench expand its engine options, perhaps adding an EJ257 motor or even smaller engines, like those found in lawn mowers, to diversify the range of engine maintenance and builds for the mechanically minded people. This variety would make Wrench even more versatile for car enthusiasts looking to explore beyond the standard engines.
