After dropping 200 hours in Backpack Battles and seeing it all, it's now time to do the same in Wretch lol. I've tried other clones of the genre that were good, but nothing really special. I have only played a few runs of Wretch so far and I can already tell it has enough content to keep me occupied for a very long time. A huge plus for this genre is that the visuals and combat animations are very satisfying and really make your builds "feel" impactful. It's not just a tetris item simulator with a health bar drain anymore. Wretch is probably an 8.5 or 9/10 in my books. Could use some QoL fixes and actual ranked placements like bronze/silver/gold instead of just points but it's otherwise solid. If something drastic changes I'll come back to update this review.. until then, see ya in the wretch pit.

I had 50+ hours in both versions of the demo. I really like this game a lot and plan on putting in many more hours of play. Devs have fixed crashing issues and resolved other issues in under 12 hrs after launch, super impressive. There are some balancing issues, bugs, and UI isn't great but non are game breaking or serious and I'm confident they will get worked out by the devs over time. A lot of new items were added from the demo and they are awesome and really add some solid impact to the game. IMO, this is better than backpack battles if you've played that. 9/10

This game is ideal for decompressing after work, offering quick matches that don’t require deep investment; but can definitely pull you in. RNG elements keep the builds unpredictable and exciting. Great visuals and gameplay.

Hands down the most fun puzzle/auto battler out right now. I had 30+ hours on the demo and so far the QOL and added items and character make this a solid release.

Summary: A fun auto battler with a good core base, but sorely missing a lot of QoL options that would be great to have added in the near future. Positive: - It's Backpack Battles but with more visual flare - Great price point for the content available - Combos system is very refreshing and a fun thing to experiment with - Builds seem to be fun and variable, having done a few runs now - Upgrades feel solid and impactful - Combat is fun to watch Negative: - Unable to edit settings during the tutorial, which you are thrown into on your first startup. Because of this I was semi soft-locked due to incorrect resolution size and had the bottom half of my screen missing. Eventually I noticed the small "Skip" button in the top-left corner to bypass the tutorial and get into the settings menu - UI could use improvements on the Shapes and Colors used to represent things. Some of them overlap in style and are a bit difficult to understand at a glance - UI is very text heavy, and a lot of effect descriptions could be summarized to be more concise - There are a lot of small camera zooms during combat that gets a bit nauseating; I'd like an option for a static camera view of the field - No option to slow/speed up combat until the replay is available to watch (Possible I missed an input for this because I had to skip the tutorial? Nothing on-screen at least) - No option to re-bind PC controls - No options to change Click+Hold to drag items into your inventory to a single click to pick up + drop
