I'm an experienced TFT, Autochess etc. player and the tldr here is that it's an enjoyable experience that I played for 2 weeks and then just kinda ran out of content. I also think most people complaining about the balance are correct. However I think it's still worth the price tag if you like these sorts of games. More details Presentation - I think it's a very high quality game with charming visuals and satisfying looking fights. As played more runs I tended to speed up the battles and especially buffs but I think that's pretty normal for a game of this type. Some art is reused or similar but everything looks and acts differently enough that it doesn't bother me at all. One exception here are the blobs that are recolors and could really use some more distinguishing features since their effects vary a lot. Besides that I have no criticisms here for an indie game of this price this is some top tier visuals. - Sounds are fine since it's not really important for games of this type but doesn't feel particularly satisfying either. Performance To preface this I want to mention that I primarily play on Steam Deck. - I did run into a couple performance problems pretty consistently. They mostly show up deeper into runs but were never severe enough to stop the game from being enjoyable. Balancing issues - As an experienced player in this genre I might have a different experience than someone who just picks this up on a whim. I think they actually put effort into easing players who are newer to auto battlers into the genre and have done so pretty successfully. - Let me start of with my biggest gripe I have about the game. Splitting units into "squads". Most Units in the game come in a squad of multiple units. These squads take additional damage from AoE attacks and distribute the damage they deal across the different members of the squad. I feel like this mechanic is bad for multiple reasons. 1) It makes the game needlessly difficult to read. Why is my 500/500 Squad losing to a 50/150 single unit? why is my 30/80 Dragon completely outperforming a 150/150 Zombie Squad? 2) It invalidates Squad unity from being tanks. Most of the bosses and elites apply AoE Damage. These are the challenges you are building your team up to in a stage. If you can buff up a squad to beat them you could have buffed up a mid sized unit for much more benefit. This even applies to smaller squads. 3) On the same note it also invalidates melee squads from being effective damage dealers as they never deal full damage and don't effectively surround bigger enemies. This hurts especially Zombies since they have some support units attached to them that loose all viability because Zombies don't work as a tank or a damage dealer. Honestly I wish they would just remove the mechanic entirely. - My next point kinda intersects with the previous but too many units are unviable at higher difficulties. This is okay for units that are worse than others but can still perform since they will sometimes be your best option in the right situation. A number of units are only unviable because they are worse than other options at the same tier, not necessarily because they are bad themselves.(Mages, Towers, Salamander, Spellblade, Succubus). However a significant number of units just don't fulfill their role (Sentinels, Wardens, Zombies) and a couple also vastly overperform (Dragons,Sergeant, Dryads, King). This creates a formula for winning runs (build up dragons early, add in dryads, miners and sergeants, get an Ogre, add in King) that feels way too consistent. - I want to emphasize again that I still had fun figuring out the game and I still think it is worth a purchase. - The above points combine to make the game a bit too easy. I found some success pretty quickly on the normal and hard difficulty finishing both in just 1 run. That's fine of course as players should still be figuring out the quirks of the game. Insane difficulty was harder to beat but not in the way I expected. I just felt more funneled into the strategy mentioned above instead of using whatever units I had by the end of finishing all characters on insane I really felt like each game felt the same and whenever I tried branching out I got punished for it. - This unit balancing problem also makes most classes feel very similar and their unique units very rarely felt like worthwhile additions that made other strategies more viable. I hope they can improve the balance of the game and I will be very excited to try it out again when they do as I think the foundation they built is very solid and can become a truly great game.

Good fun for the price, nothing too crazy. Most reviews complain about lack of info on the units and what exactly the stats do, for me it is game of discovery and trial and error. It is like those old days with the auto chess mod on dota 2 man. You learn about a unit when you use it and watch it fight. You would take the ghost pirate guy back then because his ult did like a map wide stun for 4 seconds, not because he synergies with all your units and gives whatever buff. It was simple and effective and all it needed to be. "Does this unit do good aoe or single damage? Is this unit very tanky? How fast/slow is their attack animation? Do they do anything other than attack?" You find out when you use them and watch man, not read a tooltip the size of a wiki. It isn't always a game of "I pick this unit because it synergies its class type with my other class type and gives me this and that buff" Sometimes it is "I pick this unit because it has long range and does a lot of damage." And that is fine. If you are finding the game hard, keep in mind that are 2 types of scaling, exp/levels and pure stats. When you merge a unit you DO NOT merge their stats. So merging too much can be a bad thing because you can be scaling less total stats, and a higher level unit has the same animation as before, so sometimes having more units attacking together is better than just trying to get as high of a level as you can. I could say more, but overall a game at this price that plays and looks as good as it does, does not deserve to have "mixed" reviews. (which it does as of 8/30/2025)

The criticisms in many of the negative reviews are valid, some things are unclear. I had many runs that I lost and wasn't sure what went wrong, or would be easily cruising and suddenly get destroyed by a boss. After I learned, I can now reliably beat the toughest difficulty. But this being at a nearly 50% positive review rate is bonkers. If you like auto-battlers, this one is great and I'd absolutely recommend if you are looking for a game that's a challenge and you wont beat in your first couple of runs. You'll need to pay attention to certain units during battle to see what additional moves/abilities they are doing. And the art style and presentation are much better than most in the genre.

Incredible game. Only 1.3 hours played but 40+ hours in the prologue so I know how fun this game is already. To me this is the most addicting game since Slay The Spire. There is so much depth to the units and how you place them. Can't say enough about how much I love this one. Buy Knightica, you will love it.
