Quite an addictive little puzzler / autobattler! If you're not sure what this game is about, the goal is to build the ultimate "autobattler" character by mixing skills, armor, accessories, and potions bought in between rounds from the shop and "Tetris"ing your backpack to make them synchronize with each other in the most optimal way with the goal of beating every opponent you go up against. If you suffer from ladder anxiety and/or the "PvP" tag immediately triggers the "No thanks" in your brain, don't worry about it - you're not actively playing against someone, just a character built by another player and saved as a template for a "random opponent". This still does come with the prospect of the tryhards making difficult-to-impossible builds to beat, but in 7 hours of playing, even making it nearly to the top, I didn't encounter anything I felt to be "cheap" or the usual way of someone trying to ruin your fun. I will also add that the game feels pretty well balanced all things considered. There doesn't seem to be one character / build type that screams "overpowered" - there's just a lot of "rock, paper, scissors" dynamics and losses feel like I could figure out why I lost rather than "nothing I could've done about that, just x is overpowered!". The "con" of the game is that there are a finite amount of items and skills, so after playing for several hours and eventually trying them all, runs become a bit repetitive as it's less about experimentation and more "hoping to get the items you're building for", and runs ending when the store seems to be against you gets a bit irritating. However, there's no punishment for losses and the game does a good job of being quick and entertaining enough that the "one more run" itch remains. I'd highly recommend picking this game up if you're a fan of autobattlers and enjoy tweaking builds / min maxing characters then challenging yourself to see how far you can go. I've been quite addicted to the game since I got it!
After dropping 200 hours in Backpack Battles and seeing it all, it's now time to do the same in Wretch lol. I've tried other clones of the genre that were good, but nothing really special. I have only played a few runs of Wretch so far and I can already tell it has enough content to keep me occupied for a very long time. A huge plus for this genre is that the visuals and combat animations are very satisfying and really make your builds "feel" impactful. It's not just a tetris item simulator with a health bar drain anymore. Wretch is probably an 8.5 or 9/10 in my books. Could use some QoL fixes and actual ranked placements like bronze/silver/gold instead of just points but it's otherwise solid. If something drastic changes I'll come back to update this review.. until then, see ya in the wretch pit.
dangerously good and addicting. Still very barebones outside of the gameplay. You got some Leaderboards (which still does not track me idk why) and thats it. No other reward structure or progression. Depth is great for the launch and a good foundation to expand upon. i really hope the game does good enough to get support and new stuff for the future. Minor problem, you cant turn off the sound completely. Great second screen game. Minor complaint, i cant turn off the sound completly, idk why, Give this a try, its fun.
