A very elegantly designed little game. Great work on the UI, lore, and overall atmosphere. If you're looking for a game that's easy to pick up, fun to play, and also has rich, immersive and well-written story, this one checks all the boxes. The gameplay in itself isn't groundbreaking, but still original, and most importantly, simple and efficient, and comes with enough content to enjoy it for a couple dozen hours. Now, if you were hoping for this to be the new super rich and balanced roguelike deckbuilder you could spend thousands of hours learning the ins and outs of, let me tell you right away, it's not. There's a decent amount of strategies you can go for, but the game wasn't designed to give every unit a fair chance. Some units are extremely strong and require little to no setup to make them work, while many of them are just not good at any point of the game, and some may occasionnally get to shine, but require very specific conditions to be useful, that are really hard to meet before the pretty short gameplay loop comes to an end. There's also just not that many actually strategy-defining units. As a result, you'll quickly get to a point where the game gets repetitive, and you're generally gravitating around the same handful of things... Not that strong builds aren't entertaining to play. They definitely are. They're just a bit lacking in variety. The game does try to bring variety with run modifiers (as opposed to the usual increasing difficulty, the game provides you with a choice between several random combinations of these). However, these combinations will often be restricting, to a point where, instead of playing a different, but coherent game, you're just playing the same one, but if you fail to find very specific stuff early on, you might as well reset, which arguably defeats the whole point. This reminded me of Dicey Dungeons, in the sense that it made up for not-so-deep content with a bunch of missions with different rulesets that drastically changed the gameplay. Unfortunately, Holder of Place doesn't come close to standing the comparison. It can be an easy power trip though, if you're into that. You can customize the mods to make runs where every unit is much stronger and you can start right away with certain rare ones. There's also a few ways you can go infinite in endless mode and watch as numbers go up. I know there's an audience for that. As far as I'm concerned, there isn't much to do after completing the compendium and all the one-time things. Though, as mentioned above, it was definitely a pleasant ride! Not much else to say. Hope that helps! :)

to start this off: i love roguelikes. there are now so many roguelikes. the problem is a lot of them feel like they are roguelikes just because they are popular now. not this one. this one is a roguelike on purpose. each run builds on itself. not in the usual sense, you aren't unlocking new equipment with every run (there are unlockable characters, yes, and the relics serve a similar purpose, but just as often relics add modifiers to make things *more* difficult, not less). but you get a better understanding of the world, the story, and how to play. you find strategies, refine them, adapt them. some people don't like the rerolling mechanics. normally, you can't reroll. you need specific followers or equipment for that. what you can do is lock cards to carry over to the next recruitment event. if you get two cards with good synergy, recruit one and lock one for the next round. or don't. i like the lack of reroll, honestly. it forces you to use different strategies and adapt them to what you get. my main complaint with the gameplay is that you can't save in the middle of a run and continue it later, but each run is short enough that its not that big of a problem now, the story. a roguelike is not the ideal format for telling stories. most good roguelikes don't even bother- they're fun, and that's enough. this one isn't like that. being a roguelike is important to the story, the futility, the perseverance, the endless loop. the inability to let go. also a love a good in game encyclopedia. this has a really good one. yipee !

super cool game, i would discribe it as "autobatteler MtG meets darkest dungeon and slay the spire" i do have some critique, but only because i care about the game: - it feels like there should be some more challanging fights to unlock like the heart in StS - the delver class feels a bit unbalanced, it feels like you either get the random damage relic or you die - the game needs more unlocks i think, i just got the 10nth page, dunno what happens after, so i might eat my words, but i would love to be able to unlock some more chalanging modes to play - there should be an option to fast forward the "walking" in between events i think, if you really think it is important for the atmosphere, add the option after someone completes a few runs these critiques are considered from the perspective of giving the game more enjoyable replay value, if its jsut supposed to be a relatively small game that is understandable as wel hope to see more updates, got here from jorbs's youtube btw :)

Soundtrack When. That aside, this little game is quite the artistic Jewel. The gameplay loop could use a little work, additional final bosses at least, but even then, this game is extremely fun to just, enjoy. It has fun little gimmicks, and the artwork honestly surpasses what I expected to encounter. Hands down I am sad that the Extra Units, Sea-Kissed, and Hollowed, DON'T HAVE ARTWORK like other units. THIS MUST BE FIXED, I say in the most loving way possible for this absolute GEM. Meeting characters, seeing the art work of those fighting beside you, they are all beautiful! I don't care what anyone else says, this game is a project of pure love. Would love to hear the voice of the Narrator read out the Memories you acquire. Her voice is so soothing and really fits the vibe of this abstract realm that has been created. I don't know how many runs I've done by now, but in 6 Hours, I managed to unlock MOST things. Even still, I want to keep going, I want to keep learning, I want to keep delving into this world's core. I truly hope, with the depths of my heart, that this isn't all there is for this game, just a 1.0 Release. I want more. I need more. You've created more than just a game, you've created Art.

Great presentation, interesting synergies, absence of filler meta progression, and a low price tag. Pretty easy to recommend for an autobattler. Bizarrely it is currently missing a couple of basic QoL features like 'save and quit', and being able to access the compendium midrun. I hope those get addressed because they're the only blemishes on this game so far.
