Decent xcom game for the price but please use xcom 2 for the template for xcom 3. Gameplay is decent but story and characters are terrible. Go darker with story not this cartoon rubbish.

As a lover of the XCOM franchise I enjoyed this game and would suggest anyone who likes the franchise to check it out. It is a nice hold over while we wait for XCOM 3 or whatever Firaxis is cooking up. Gripes: -The format becomes repetitive, Breach, Sweep, Repeat. -The story is interesting, but completely undeveloped. -The tactical depth is not what XCOM enthusiast would find challenging Likes: -The breach mechanic is actually pretty cool. It just shouldnt be the lynch pin of the entire game. -The line art from the loading screens is awesome. (They should have used that style accross the board. Thats actually about it. It's XCOM lite, I probably won't replay it. XCOM2 war of the chosen has so much more depth. Chimera Squad definitely felt like a proof of concept. The game would have been infinitely cooler as a "Post War City Management" game, with needing to staff each regions police department, guarantee food/water/shelter for citizens, and unravel the different crime syndicates with the help of Chimera Squad. But what do I know?

Its not a usual x-com game. Basically its castrated x-com. Yes its also turn based tactix but way cheaper, more childish and less complex than original xcoms. But if you like this kind of games it will still bring you 15-20 hours of joy. Recommend to buy with huge discount.

Its a very bite sized version of XCOM 2. If you are a fan of XCOM2's gameplay and you want something that is cheap, easy and cheerful, this is the game to get. It does not have the long war mod style planning, nor does it have permadeath, but if you have kids and other responsibilities, and just want to play a quick mission between mealtimes or running to the next playdate or class, this hits the spot.

Really a mixed feeling about this XCom. I would have liked to put "neutral", but in the end, I need to salute the couple of innovations which make the game worth trying for any XCom fan (like me). The Breach system is really a cool feature which makes the mission far more dynamic in my opinion. It should be kept in any future XCom. Besides, they manage to turn positive, something which could seem like a big flaw: only 11 characters, BUT fully unique with their own gameplay, all of them very different and fun to discover. So why mixed? Because the artistic direction is catastrophic, close to a mobile game. And the scenario is dull and just completely generic... My first campaign (Normal), while maxing everything, took me around 30h and it was overall enjoyable, despite some slightly repetitive missions at the very end. One big letdown is the glitched "Every Timeline" achievement which forces a minimum of 3 playthrough (if you are lucky)! In conclusion, I would recommend it to XCom addicts, in need for their dose. For new players, definitely try XCom 2: it is still the reference! And for achievement hunters, I guess "Every Timeline" should repell you enough not to make the step...
