Fun pixel art singleplayer tarkov-like. UI is atrocious. No notifications when you can level up or upgrade. Inventory is lacking in basic QoL functions. No idea whenever a NPC has a new quest. The hideout upgrading is weird. Very frustrating, puts me off. THE WHOLE THING NEEDS A REWORK!!! Coming back after a year or so and seeing that not much has changed in this area is disappointing and discouraging. On the other hand it speaks on how good the game is, if it makes me look past these issues.

Good game but a very frustrating experience on the steam deck (which is the only way I've played it). Actually navigating the world and shooting feels good. But navigating the menus, map, and inventory is awful. For example, you can't use the joystick to move around the map. Placing markers on the map is buggy, sometimes X works, sometime you have to press B instead, and sometimes neither work and you need to close the map, move, then reopen it to put down a marker. I also feel like I need to mash a menu button multiple times to get it to take. PLEASE add a quick equip button for controllers... finding a gun, moving in to your backpack, navigating to the equipped gun, unequiping, moving back to new gun and equipping is extremely unfun. While I would still recommend the game, steam deck users be warned going in.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. meets Escape From Tarkov, in top-down view. On one hand, part of me feels that the game was in better shape when it entered Early Access, and the years it took to get an official launch felt like a lot of wasted time and overall something like two steps forward, five steps back, but... On the other hand, despite its faults, I still love this game. What can I say. Could it be better? Absolutely. Is it still a lot of fun despite its issues? Absolutely. In a way, it might even be better for players that come in now, not having experienced how things were, so they have nothing to compare to. If you look through the reviews, you'll see a lot of negative ones talking about "the combat update". Though things did get worse, it's nowhere near as bad as many seem to want to make it out to be. If nothing else, I appreciate what the dev was trying to do... I just don't think they succeeded. From what I understand, the idea behind the combat update was to make more playstyles viable, and entice players away from the AR + sniper meta. Unfortunately, the meta hasn't changed, everything else still sucks, they just nerfed ARs and snipers, and made combat feel worse overall. But hey, if you don't know what it was like before, no sweat. The other "big change" that came with the 1.0 release was changing the skill system. Unfortunately, I much prefer the old one, and the new one feels like a downgrade. But again, if you don't know what you're missing... The core game loop hasn't changed since the beginning of Early Access, and there's unfortunately been little content that's been added. One big map, some quests, some enemies, some weapons and armor. Bit of this, bit of that, but none of it feels significant. Maybe it's just me, but I expected more from the ~2 years it was in Early Access. Still, the game is fun as hell, so... recommended.

Controller (steam deck) feels awful to navigate menus with, which you have to do a lot. There's also no controller settings or button mapping. Cloud saves don't work? These are my issues I hope the dev fixes, aside from them the game is great.
