Zoo Tycoon is an older game that still holds up well - its related to Zoo Tycoon 2 (which i played extensively previously and really enjoyed the Safari / Aquarium / Dinosaur and topological ability to arrange your zoo as per the environmental layer aspects, unfotunately none of which are in this game). Despite the lack, this game is still pretty fun to play and worth the time and as I got it on sale, the price was pretty neglible

If you're coming into this game thinking it'll be like all the other Zoo Tycoon games, you're in for a shock. They change the formula, making it so all animal exhibits are pre-built, and there's no chance of an animal escaping to wreak havoc on your zoo patrons. Don't let that stop you, though. Even with pre-built assets, it's still a fun game where you have to manage the happiness of your animals with the happiness of your patrons. It's easier to reach goals than any of the previous games, and once you hit a certain benchmark, you no longer need to worry about anything. But that's why this game adds a second level that makes it feel more like a puzzle game than a sim: once you're done with one zoo, you need to move a specific animal that is only obtained there to a sort of community pool, then start the next zoo, which requires the animal from the previous zoo to be showcased in order to complete it. If you're looking to build and manage the intricacies of a zoo in the vein of the early Tycoon games, get Planet Zoo. But if you're looking for a casual game with low stakes that feels more like a puzzle than a simulation, get this game.

This game is mediocre. Don't purchase it expecting to be entrenched in wonder. All aspects of this game have no depth, when playing this game you may find some parts of it to be slightly deep, do not be fooled, after 5 minutes you will have seen all of that feature. But, if you aren't seeking much and just want to fill an afternoon with a game that is relaxing and won't push back, this is a good choice. There is a remarkable amount of animals in this game, they are all pretty similar but still vaguely different. When I play this game I am either bored out of my mind or having a good time, however if you play too long and think about what it could've been you will slowly fall into frustration.

For what it is, it's okay. Personally, I enjoy this version of Zoo Tycoon, for a few of the features it offers. First off, the graphics are pretty good. The animals look cute and it doesn't take a NASA computer to run it. It is on the older side so, on my higher end gaming system, I can sometimes see the rigs of the animals themselves. The game play is pretty basic, no real lore or any actual storyline to it. You get in, kind of customize your character, and you build a zoo. The enclosures are presets, small/medium/large, I like this for simplicity reasons. I'm not much of a builder, so having it prebuilt for me is nice. Downside is, the large can only hold 10 animals, and the whole zoo itself has a limit as to how much you can build so you aren't always able to get every single animal in one zoo. One downside is if I set the settings to fullscreen, I have to exit the game entirely and restart it if I decide to change it to window mode. I don't feel I should have to fully restart the game just switching from fullscreen to window. I like that you can play as the character you create, run around the zoo as them and even drive little buggies around. Achievements are fairly easy to earn. There's not any real challenge to this game, it's quite simple imo. It's not a large game, only around 9gb in size. While this is a "Zoo Tycoon" named game, it is not quite like the originals we grew up loving. Besides the graphics the gameplay just kind of feels like... cheap. I can't compare this to Planet Zoo, because Planet Zoo is top tier zoo gaming, while this... is average. If you're on the fence about buying it, wait until it's on sale. For what it offers, I feel it's a solid game. This brought back so many childhood memories, at first I was a disappointed because you can´t decorate freely the exhibits like we used to do and dinosaurs, whales and other animals aren't available, but it´s still a great cozy game to play, have fun, and relax.
