The good [*] The art in this game is really good [*] New mechanics, scenery, characters and gameplay elements are introduced throughout the entirety of the game and keep the experience fresh and nuanced throughout [*] The boss fights are unique and distinguished from each other [*] The music is very enjoyable [*] The story, while a little corny, is still engaging and fun to follow along from start to finish [*] The game overall is fun and doesn't leave you bored throughout any of it's sections The bad [*] The price is a little steep for the hours you get out of it but when it goes on sale it definitely is worth picking up [*] The combat in the intermediate stages between boss fights leaves quite a bit to be desired [*] In the starting sections, the first couple enemies introduced are very similar to each other, differing mostly in being a larger version of the previous with one or two new moves in comparison to the previous and also look very similar to each other [*] The stages in the middle section of the game are a lot larger without the quantity of enemies going up significantly, turning it in to basically chasing after the very thinly split enemies that are running around all over [*] Also around the middle section, the boss arena that was built around the mechanics of that boss fight, that differ a lot from the normal combat, is reused multiple times for normal enemy fights but is quite uninspired for these as it is at it's core just a large open space. The biggest challenge for this stage is just not getting blown up by the obstacles that are spammed while chasing the thinly spread enemies [*] In the later stages the powerups become incredibly overpowered and the normal combat mechanics shift in to the background. You get so many powerups that you basically can just activate them all and run in circles to kill all of the enemies without pressing a single button to attack them [*] Every airborne enemy on the entire map can be simply beaten by spamming "j" and ";". This also works on the boss that is airborne, as such the fight is over in a few seconds. [*] Overall I'd say that the combat is probably the weakest aspect of the game. For a beat 'em up I'd have liked to have a lot more enemies to fight overall with focus on AOE attacks to deal with their massive hordes instead of, as this game does, leaning in to less enemies overall but which individually are quite tanky if you use your normal combat moves. The powerups should have also been a lot rarer as they're very overpowered and decimate the difficulty of the game. Having the enemies being thinly spread out over a large map also makes it quite tedious to fight each and every group individually. In the early sections of the game the maps are quite a bit smaller and all the enemies bundle together in to a huge pile and chase you, which I think was the most engaging stages of combat and the most challenging. [*] The enemy designs get more bland as the game goes on Conclusion Despite it's flaws I still still had a lot of fun playing and enjoyed the experience from start to finish. I would definitely recommend picking up this game when it goes on sale.
