Intro I have my fair share of experience with indie survival horror on Steam. Admittedly, a lot of them are barely playable slop that use pretty ladies as thirst traps to drive sales. But Deep Space 7 is not. Beneath the bad presentation and obvious engine asset flips, it is actually a functional and fun game. The main game takes over 7 hours, and the additional mode may take a couple hours on top, which is more content than many other indie counterparts. Features Sure, you have your pretty lady with guns, and you can also collect a bunch of outfits and customize her with sliders, like giving her a bakery (o゚v゚)ノ, which already beat many competitions out there. Outside the fan service, the game is inspired by Dead Space, with you escaping a space station after things go horribly wrong. Gameplay-wise, it follows the basic Resident Evil style survival horror formula: exploring the station, finding keycards and other important items, getting and upgrading weapons, while killing whatever gets in your way. Gunplay is actually the intended focus of the game, with an additional mode dedicated to combat, while resource management is kept minimal as the game is generous with supplies. The map does not have intricate Castlevania-like design, instead, relying on heavy backtracking. There is no puzzle to solve, except finding passcodes, which can be engraved in some random places. The game has some replay value, providing in-game challenges to unlock plenty of weapons and outfits. As a low-budget indie project, it does have many rough edges I have issue with. Controls & Shooting [*]Ground pound cannot be rebind to another key, like the dev forgot to add rebind support. Binding a key to scrollwheel button also does not work. [*]Movement feels a bit floaty in the demo, which is address in the full game, but also makes it feel less fluid. [*]The game cannot be paused at all, including when opening menus and playing cutscene, during which enemies can still attack. [*]The game has a brief moment of unresponsiveness that after switching weapons, you cannot immediately aim. [*]Aiming accuracy is inconsistent, and so is the melee hitbox. It might be a hit registration problem because consecutive attacks are also not always registered correctly, both melee and shooting. [*]Shotgun seems to have an aiming and shot-registration window issue. After you click fire, moving the mouse quickly enough can effectively make the shot land somewhere different from where you initially aimed. You can feel a noticeably long delay between firing and landing the shot with shotgun. [*]It is difficult to find an aim sensitivity that feels perfectly comfortable. Enemy Design [*]I can image higher difficulty is a lot less pleasant than normal, as the game often relies on throwing large hordes of enemies at you to provide a challenge. [*]The worm enemies are fking annoying because they are tiny and difficult to notice until you get hit. One section has you fighting them in water, which is even worse because the poor water textures make it almost impossible to see where they are. [*]When some enemies get their heads popped, a small eyeball emerges and sways around frantically. With the uncomfortable aiming sensitivity and inconsistent aiming, it is so frustrating to shoot at. [*]Enemies can literally spawn out of thin air in front of you. If you're lucky, you can set up a trap the moment they spawn in and blast them all to kingdom come. Level Design [*]Navigation map is barebone and inaccurate with many mistakes. [*]Level design is uninspiring and lacks creativity, mostly boiling down to finding level 1 keycard, then level 2, 3, 4. [*]Chapter usually ends with taking the elevator out of the area. There is no clear warning so players may potentially leave areas unexplored, only to find out they can’t go back. [*]Chapter 3 and 4 have a lot of long running around, seemingly just to inflate playtime. You have to travel from one side of the map to another, only to be sent back again shortly afterward, and so on and so forth. [*]Chapter 6 introduces this fking annoying bio bomb trap hidden into the environment. Some are more noticeable like orange bulbs, while many others look almost identical to the surroundings. They have large blast radius and can often kill you instantly. Since the game only has manual save, some players may be forced to redo a big chunk of progress because of the trap, which makes me suspect it is another trick to artificially inflate playtime. Optimization & Visuals [*]Optimization still needs improving. Some areas have sudden stutters. More enemies spawning in and opening sniper scope can also cause stutter. [*]Character hair has strange shimmer in dark areas. The edges of some objects have bad shimmering as well. [*]Environments lack variety due to heavy asset reuse. Most areas are not visually distinct or interesting. Verdict These are just what came to mind as I sat down writing this review, so I probably have more to rant about. With that said, I did enjoy the game. It could definitely use more polish, but overall experience isn’t bad. Currently, it is on version 0.9, and the dev is still pushing out new updates every few months. It is a decent pastime, especially considering the price it asks for.

Another female protagonist 3rd person shooting game, and I'm here for it. Positives: -The shooting is pretty solid. It really doesn't need to be overly complex. -Gun variety is good for what the game is trying to do. -The protagonist is attractive, but also I appreciate how thorough the customization is for her. -The atmosphere as a whole is pretty good. I like the data logs you find. -Enemy variety is pretty solid. -Enemy models look really good. -Boss fights at least try to be unique. Negatives: -Rudimentary puzzles which are typically just find the power cells or turn on the power. There are a few interesting and unique puzzles, but it's kind of 50/50 on the quality of them. -Enemy variety doesn't matter since most of them can be boiled down to "run at the player and touch her". The biggest difference in many of the enemies is whether they are armored, or if they are small and fast. -Sound design needs improved. Specifically, loading the shotgun and the out of breath sound. The shotgun loading sound is really loud and it cuts out oddly, and the sound of her breathing heavy due to exhaustion sounds like a guy finishing a marathon. It's odd, to say the least. -Level design. Most of the levels if not all of them feature the same generic science fiction space station aesthetic. Corridors, rooms, and occasional biohorror. The levels need more variety. Also, most of them follow the typical Doom formula of: Find Keycard 1 for door 1 to get key 3 for door 3 to get key 2 for door 2 etc etc. It's very formulaic and exhausting. It's the main reason I haven't beaten the game yet... it is just too mind numbing. Maybe it improves after chapter 4 or 5 (I don't remember where I am). Overall: 6/10. It's a solid foundation, and I genuinely enjoy the game. 6USD is a good price for it so far. I've payed ten times that for a AAA game only to refund it after an hour so this game is pretty solid in my book. I wish the main character had some personality though. So far she is Jane Protagonist, and I hope that at some point the developer will hire a female voice actor to voice his protagonist or even just provide some unique sound bites for her. But since it's a single dev (I think?) I totally understand how hard it is to work on a game like this, and to consistently release updates. Keep doing a good job!

It's pretty decent for the price this game offers. BUT, here's my thoughts: Yes...TKA offers more (beside the cake), is better polished, and supports workshop mods. Keep in mind, DS7 is a fifth of the price compare to TKA (as of this review date, base price wise). DS7 still has several janky things and quirks that needs improvement, but I can borderline tolerate it. I will say I did have a single crash while I was viewing the outfits (think it was one of the casual outfit). Performance does need improvements in certain areas (ex. in 1st chapter when going down the elevator behind lvl 2 keycard door, looking towards the laser locked area, my performance dips to mid-low 50s / another ex. in dungeon theme challenge, not sure if during enemy spawning and/or breaking one of the crates would pummel my FPS low 20s). I hope with the new engine version update the developer mentioned will alleviate some performance encounters. Everyone can speak out their POV between this versus TKA. This is how I feel based on my experience.

The game is very pretty looking. Definitely a step in the Killing Antidote direction. We have to encourage the devs who do not force us to play for ugly as a55 butch female protagonists. Definitely worth trying for the price.

Played the entire game in about 6 1/2 hours on normal. I have encountered very, very few bugs that were unfortunate. Specifically a monster or two getting into places where I can't reach things. I think some of the challenges are a little ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ though. At least, there was no way for me to tell how to complete them easily or on my own. I wouldn't pay more than $5 for it's current state, there are some things that just aren't exactly polished. Here is a list of what I like and disliked. Liked: - Combat. The combat system is pretty good between the shotgun, sniper, pistol, and rifle. I like being able to carry all 4. They shoot quite nicely. - Unlimited Stamina. A lot of games have a stamina bar, and I find taking a step away from that is quite refreshing. I don't have to worry about stamina so much, I don't need to wait 20 years to recover anything, life's good with it. - Puzzles. This game feels very much like resident evil with its puzzles. You can't progress until you complete all the puzzles, specifically the main ones. You do have some optional ones which are a bit harder, I couldn't figure them out. Dislikes: - Gun play. Yes, yes, I know I said I like the guns, but that was only the extent of it. Now, lets get into the meat and potatoes here. The gun play is very basic. You got your shotgun, light machine gun, grenade launcher, pistol, assault rifle, and sniper rifle. The light machine gun and grenade launcher felt weak as hell compared to the main 4. I find them both a joke and I wouldn't even bother with them unless they were maxed out, but unfortunately that's not possible without cheating. The sniper rifle's scope is WAY too ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ zoomed in, like why do we need a 12x scope on a hallway on something that is 10 feet away? I think reducing it to a 2x or 4x would be the better move. The rifle, I have no qualms with, it performs like a rifle and feels like a rifle, but it just feels basic as hell. It doesn't sound different from the other guns all that much. The shotgun... I only put 2 damn power upgrades into it and it was still tearing ♥♥♥♥ apart, half the time a headshot was a 1 hit KO and other times it took 4+ shots. The shotgun is very inconsistent, but that's the nature of shotguns, wide spread and not everything hits the target. The pistol... the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ pistol... Why the hell is it so damn powerful? 2 shots on everyone and most just die unless they are the buff ones. Why am I not hearing a "boom boom boom" from this gun? OK, I'm being dramatic, I'd like to hear it be at least more powerful than it sounds right now. - Zombie Eye. I HATE this thing. It's an eye attached to a tentacle that wiggles around and you gotta move and try to hit it. It doesn't just wiggle a little or slowly, this thing is damn near impossible to hit. It's purely RNG and I can aim my ♥♥♥♥. It dont matter if you are using a sniper, rifle, pistol, or shotgun. The chances of you hitting it is 15% every shot. I think most of my ammo that was wasted was on this damn eye. Lets not forget, they don't stay down with the eye, no, they're ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ running about while you gotta cower because you can't hit the damn thing. You gotta keep downing them until you manage to take it out. Oh, but you wanna hit it while it is up? Good luck, the tall guys have it waving around at the roof so you gotta look STRAIGHT UP while it's flailing around faster when they are up. I will give credit where it is due, it did help keep me on my toes, but ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, tone down the speed when they are downed to like 25% of how fast it goes. - Gun Sounds. All of them sound the same aside from how they are OBVIOUSLY supposed to sound. It's annoying, but I am able to tune it out. I do like guns have distinct sounds, not the same ♥♥♥♥. This isn't a deal breaker though. - Weighted Puzzle. The ♥♥♥♥ am I supposed to do? I can't pick ♥♥♥♥ up and items dont interact with the puzzles. I can't get a speed upgrade, so I can't beat the thing. I spent an 30 minutes trying to figure it out and never could. - Controls. I'm gonna say, most of the controls are fine, don't worry, but there is one OBVIOUS control bug that is quite annoying. You are unable to swap between melee and your guns. If you want to equip a melee while holding a gun or nothing, you gotta open up the inventory, select the melee weapon, equip it, and then you can use it. The down side? You wanna use your guns again? Yeah, you can swap to your guns, but doing it by scrolling or numbers is not the proper way of doing it if you wanna save time. The proper way is to OPEN THE INVENTORY BACK UP, then select your melee weapon, THEN UNEQUIP IT. "Why?", you may ask? Because the devs feel as though hard coding the controls is the best option and making it so you CAN'T SWAP YOUR CONTROLS. F1-F6 is your damn MELEE TOGGLES, BUT THEY DON'T ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ WORK! If you equip your melee weapon, yeah, you can swap to your gun, but you CAN'T SWAP BACK EASILY! The dev says "Oh, you don't need to swap between your guns and melee." Like whaaaaat?! NO! If you wanna preserve ammo, which is crucial in the beginning and throughout the game, you absolutely ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ do! You can go bankrupt in ammo pretty quickly early game, it's not until chapter 5 that you be getting LOADED With ammo. Shooting all the boxes with your weapons isn't practical, you'll run out fast. "Just switch to a different weapon" your other weapons will see more usage than the pistol in big battles or with lots of enemies! The ♥♥♥♥ you mean?! Also, your inventory button isn't tab, it's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ "i", so cheers to all of you who love using tab, suffer with me. Overall, despite the dislike section, I find the game very compelling to buy at $5 USD. It's a fun little experience, you can just relax and enjoy your time and play at your own pace. The game doesn't force you to be on a time limit and you can save an infinite amount of times with manual saving. Just make sure you save your game before you exit, this game doesn't have an autosave feature from what I can tell. It only stores checkpoints if you die, that's it. Other than that, for $5? Buy it, it's quite fun
