March 2025
Experience: - Desperados: Wanted Dead or Alive - Desperados 2 - Desperados 3 (Mimimi) - Robin Hood, Legend of Sherwood - Shadow Tactics + DLC - Commandos 2: Men of Courage - Commandos 3: Destination Berlin - Warmongrels - Sumerian Six Completed: Hard. Playstyle: Quicksave/Quick load enjoyer -------------------------------------------- At the time of purchase this game had "Mixed" reviews. Now (09.03.25) they have "Mostly positive". I think this game is a rough diamond. The easy-difficulty could probably take a significant nerf to viewcones and noise pollution. On Hard it is a bit insane of how it works. For new players I'd recommend starting with Shadow Tactics/Desperados 3, then move over to War Mongrel and then maybe 63 Days. The game is good, but more tuned for veteran players who are used to the train of thought you need to solve the "puzzles" the devs throw at you. Ironing out 1 specific bug I encountered and this would be a 8/10 for me. The OST is great. Where Sumerian Six' OST has a few tracks that can get annoying after 2hours on repeat, 63 Days have OST I can't get tired off by the fourth hour. Yes, on hard I spent 3,5 to 4 hours on each map, compared to 1,5-2h on Sumerian Six. The latter being significantly easier on Hard than 63 Days. Other positives/moments that stand out: Having played a lot of these games recently, I think the Devs really deserve credit for things that makes 63 Days stand out from the other games. * Day/Night cycle: This is the first time I've experienced a Day/Night cycle on the same map, changing as you complete objectives. (Night -> Dawn). Only seen on one map, but still cool. * You have few characters and they are very limited in what they can do, but the devs do give you some new skills. For instance you can now push enemies a few meters forward, which means they can fall off roofs/cliffs etc. * Like War Mongrel, things are happening on the map. You dont "only" have your classic patrol. The enemies are often doing something on the map. For instance you can have a patrol going around with a flame thrower setting buildings on fire. Another enemy is trying to pull a truck out of the mud with his motor cycle. After "cooling down", when the enemy have seen a dead friend, they will often pick up the corps and carry it to a pile filled with other corpses. I've never seen enemies react to fallen team mates like that before. * Many maps are "dynamic". Which means your surrounding change as you progress with a mission. The maps are often a battlefield and it is natural that the war/fight progress as you complete objectives. For instance: You start with a "normal day at the office". Just going to deliver some hardware to people in need. Then suddenly nazis arrive going door to door looking for partisans. Now you have to get past them in order to complete your delivery. When you have delivered the package, you now get a new assignment of infiltrating a location and making a "hostile takeover" easier. This is really good in-game storytelling and I'd say they are doing this part better than Mimimi (Shadow Tactics/D3). Some times things doesn't end when things go boom and you have to deal with the aftermath or find the shortest way out. * Cruelty of war: Might not be every ones cup of tea, but the game does not sugar coat anything which I like. The Commandos series is more "american propaganda" type of style where you just kill nazis, but neither of the maps really show the horrors of war. Commandos 2 "The Bridge over the river Kwai" map touched a bit on it, but not to the extent that War Mongrels or 63 Days do. 63 Days have maps/npc cycles where things happen, but not as far as War Mongrel went. As a European I had my country invaded by nazis and we still feel the horrors of what they did. 63 Days makes sure that we don't forget and with today's political climate I hope we are not in for a rerun. * I also like the nuggets/collectibles you find around the map. It may be a propaganda poster, a news article, a call to arms-paper etc. Unlike War Mongrel you do not get video documentaries after each map, which I think is a bit of a shame. I really liked them in War Mongrel. Negative: If I'm going to pick out one thing that "bothers" me the most, it is the inclusion of live combat/twin stick shooting. You can select a character and go into twin-stick mode which means you can shoot enemies similar to a twin-stick shooter. I feel the controls/combat is a bit clumsy and I wish the maps weren't tuned with the intention of having the players use this feature. (Meaning opening up more ways to solve a puzzel the old fashion way). A secondary issue is that noise pollution and view cones could use a bit of a nerf, even on hard difficulty. There is no reason for enemies hearing a throwing knife kill on the other side of a 3 or 4 story tall building. Night doesn't seem to affect view cones and neither does search light/flash light. Summary: Apparently the game didn't sell well and the devs have announced a new game in a different genre. This is a bit unfortunate, because the game isn't hot trash like a few reviewers would want to make you believe. I think there is a mix between "poor" marketing and that the game is a step up in difficulty from War Mongrels. To the devs I say; I don't care if people playing on easy mode has shorter view cones and deaf enemies. The Hard difficulty is where you can step up the difficulty level. I hope the devs make a new game like this in the future. I'll check out if their new game is for me. If not, then I cross my fingers for the devs to come back to the genre with another awesome game :)

I was waiting for 63 Days because I enjoyed War Mongrels and I love genre of "Commandos-Like" games. Knowing my skill I enter to 63 Days straight on HARD. And man. This game is TOUGH. Some places have extreme tight conditions of how you have to get through, mostly you have to really think of what to do and which tools to use. This game has absolutely no mercy on player whatsoever. Only 6 missions but each one is very long, multiple phases and challenging. On 1st mission alone I spend 3h. And I enjoyed every minute I spend on this game. But let me tell you straight. If you haven't played any Commandos-Like games or you've "only" beaten games like Desperados 3 on easy... Just skip it. I glanced at some differences on one mission and... I can see that easy is not that easy. Story wise? Everyone has different taste, for me it was ok. It showed and telled what it had to show and tell, that's it. Bugs/Glitches? Some but to be honest, nothing major or nothing that game restart would not help. Maybe the physics sometimes is... Annoying. But well it's not "old times" like Commandos 1-3 that if you kill enemy it drops on exact spot every time. Here you have PHYSICS and sometimes it doesn't work too well but... It doesn't relly matter. Game overall challenging but fantastic.

Brings back the best memories of Commandos: Behind the Enemy Lines, but has a lot of improvements. The maps are really big and you can try a lot of approaches to complete the tasks. I am not a fan of adding super powers or magic to WW2 theme, so 63 Days is a great treat for me.

I played dozens of hours of the demo and was refreshing the Steam's store page to be one of the first to purchase it. What stands out most about Destructive Creation's work is the storytelling and the cinematic, 63 Days is another beautiful work, engaging and well crafted. It's like to be interacting with a movie. The gameplay is the classic RTT, but a little different from the Mimimi's titles: as in War Mongrels, 63 Days also encourages the player to go loud and blaze the guns, instead of only kill stealthily. Be prepared to deal with real challenging 'puzzles', with enemies watching from different high levels, patroling at different speeds, one really have to think a lot before make decisions and act. 63 Days is a must go for RTT fans, as well as to WWII and history addicts - and I can say I check those three boxes.
