I have played all the commandos that came before! A true veteran! I was 17 when the first came out... now at 44 I still enjoy the old games, but also this new one is amazing. Looks really good, you can choose your own solutions and pathways to the military puzzles.. I am having a great time!. Large levels! no repetitive scenery, desert /snow/jungle /day/night and so on. Also inside the buildings works well. Really polished game.

Commandos Origins is a great strategy game. It is structured like the classic first three installments. The player commands a small squad, each member has special abilities. While in the first installments it was a good idea to lure enemies into a safe ambush with one character, this time the new command mode allows you to eliminate groups of enemies with your squad simultaneously. It is also nearly the same difficulty as in the first parts, but a clear recommendation for strategy fans.

A proper return to form for the Commandos franchise, which has been dead for far too long - and perhaps the best game since Commandos 2: Men of Courage - if not on par. Just needs Mateo Pascual's soundtrack, and then it'd be perfect! A lot of the negative reviews seem to be from around the time the game itself launched, and more or less focus on bugs. Coming into it now, it feels like a very polished experience and I haven't come across any bugs. Controls (and mechanics) are indeed simplified to a degree, but I find it makes the game far more enjoyable for it - which is funny, since one of the negative reviews talks about how the game's mechanics are far too complicated...clearly they've never played Commandos 2 Hopefully this is the start of a new era for the franchise. Maybe we'll get a remake of BEL and Men of Courage? I certainly hope so. I'd love to play that with Origin's gameplay.

I've been growing up with the Commandos series since I was a kid. Unlike some players, I don't want to complain about the game becoming easier just because every commando can throw grenades, use a knife, or knock out enemies. This happened in Commandos 3 too, and eventually modern games became easier than retro ones. My main issue with this game is that almost every mission has an extremely large map with a huge unnecessary number of enemies and side objectives. As the game says in one of the hints, the extra number of enemies are fillers to spend more playing time. But the thing is there is no goal or reward to clear the map of every enemy, and also side objectives are useless, and they are there as fillers. Though not all of them do, some side objectives make the main objectives more accessible and easier, but there are pointless ones too. In the end, as a person who was waiting 20 years to play a new commando game, it fulfilled most of my expectations, but only large maps and an extreme number of enemies in every mission with no goal or reward feel like the developers just wanted to put in fillers and increase playtime without putting any purpose into it. So I give it an 8/10 score.

Better than expected! I finished the game on hardest difficulty after 48 hours. The game is certainly worth the price for the length however it does not come without issues. I am a long time Commandos fan, my all time favourite is always Commandos 2 along with Behind Enemy lines and I cannot express enough how much I hate Beyond The Call of Duty. Strike Force was a great game if it did not have the title Commandos but as a Commandos game well, let's all forget it ever existed. I loved Commandos 2 so much that I spent learning a bit of Spanish to be able to create Mod for it to implement Behind Enemy Lines gameplay to it and I did (mod is on moddb). A few years ago, Mimimi studio made Shadow Tactics and it was great. However, Desperados 3 was ultimate disaster and extremely linear. This brought a big fear into me when Origins was announced because I was so worried they follow the Mimimi trends and make ultra boring linear games that you have only one maximum 2 ways of finishing levels. Every single level in those games was a puzzle where you had to figure out the order of the guards you needed to take out without them seeing each other with almost zero creative approach. Stealth was forced and it left no replayability behind for me. Back to Commandos Origins: The game starts with 3 ULTRA boring and badly designed levels. If you managed to beat the first 3 levels without uninstalling and refunding the game then you start to face the good side. Operation Nightfall to me is possibly the worst mission ever designed in human history. Good thing is right after you beat that level the game starts to get the good old commandos feeling. The Good: - Freedom of approach just like the old games, you can go gun blazing or full stealth. - Very diverse missions (after mission 3), you can even steal a Panzer III tank and blow an airfield with it just like BEL. - Commandos have interesting new abilities like the Spy's new silenced pistol. - Very lengthy game play (took 48 hours for me to finish it on hardest difficulty). The Bad: - Terrible voice acting and voice choices for characters - Subpar animation for enemies specially when they engage into combat. - Bugs, the game has some really annoying bugs but not big enough to stop you from playing it. - Commandos are not assigned to their classic number and order in the selection menu. - Useless intro driving scenes in some missions where you cannot skip them. - Marine has lost his pistol for no reason. The Ugly: - The first 3 missions and the final mission are badly designed and they are extremely frustrating. - Alarm system is terrible, in this game when you trigger an alarm the game gets much easier. Instead of patrols or reinforcements coming from guard houses like in the classic games, in Commandos Origins you have 3 stages of Alarm, 3 area alarms and 1 global alarm. The Global alarm makes the game extremely easy to beat because all enemies will abandon their posts and start looking around, this easily can result in baiting them to traps or just basically go to the area they were covering before. Every time you are in a situation where you are stuck with guards watching each other just raise a global alarm by doing something and they abandon their posts. - Enemies in combat can move with the speed of wind and shoot while moving with sliding animation. - Enemies do not have any hit reaction to getting hit by pistol bullets which means even in combat they can still shoot you back if you hit them. - Spy is probably one of the most useless characters in ending missions as for some reason in this game he has no access to higher rank uniforms. He can only disguise as soldier or guards. Soldier disguise is not effective against Snipers and Guards and Officers, Guards disguise is not effective against officers. Unfortunately there is no officer disguise which is very questioning. - Some commandos are able to carry the bodies while crouching which is an easy glitch to be inside enemy vision and kill and carry right after you kill without being spotted. - The missions objective triggers are not properly set up, for example in one mission Green Beret is captured and will be executed if alarm raises. If you rescue him and raise the alarm you still fail with a message saying he got executed while he is already rescued and is playable in your team. Another example is final mission, if you kill the officer even when all of his guards are alive and shooting at you the game ends with mission success story and you can even see during the cutscene your guy is being shot at by 1000 soldiers but well mission ends. - If you finish the main objectives all of the secondary objectives that you have not completed get removed which basically forces you to finish the level even if you were aiming to explore for 100% progress. - And last but not least, who thought it is a good idea to make Sapper the main guy instead of Green Beret? He was always the commander in old games but here he is just a pun... Final Verdict: The game is good and it is worth the price. But lower your expectations to Behind Enemy Lines level made for today's standards. This game by no means is any successor to C2 and if you ignore that fact it is a very enjoyable game.
