It's a cute game with many different variables and things to manage. It's not terribly difficult at all once you give it a go. I've played through the scenario three times in seven+ hours, each very different from the others, and I still have some very different decisions and routes to try. Got it on sale and am very pleased with it.

This game took me by surprise - I really enjoyed it. I have come back to it multiple times between larger games for a breather. The art style is fantastic, the music is great and the choices and interactions are numerous, and therefore the replayability is high. The game is quite simple - choose a path to navigate the globe in 80 days. While the goal is simple you are also presented with an intersting dilema as you have to manage your resources and gear. Most cities have traders and acquiring gear will help you on some legs of your journey and hinder others. Buying low and selling high at certain locations are also encouraged and might sometimes change your intended route. Managing your money is done well here, as the quicker options/routes are expensive and you cannot simply attempt to complete your journey by just using your starting funds. You also manage health as rough transportation takes its toll, and this is where gear can reduce the burden. Along the way you are met with problems ranging from revolutions to full blown wars to civilians in need which could alter your path or block it completely. There are intersting interactions with people and events, be it at a city locations or between them. By dwelving deeper into people's problems or personal stories you could be helped or hindered on your journey - the great thing here is curiosity is never the best option and therein lies the beauty of this game - unpredictability but in a good way. Good luck and bad luck are a part of it and feels balanced enough - sometimes its best to ignore certain prying questions. The mini stories on your journey are well crafted and I have only encountered the same stories a hand full of times, but each time I switched up my choices and it ended quite differently the second time. Each time I play I try a different route, be it over the north and south poles, through Europe and Asia, or down south through Africa, and then through to Australia and South America or rather through North America. I feel the possibilities are vast. And when I lose, which happens often, I enjoyed the journey nonetheless. Don't need to wait for a sale. Not for everyone bu worth every penny if you enjoy exploring the unknown and role playing as an adventurer. 8,5/10

This game is the love child of video game and literature. In terms of gameplay, you play as a valet, Passepartort, for a rich English gentleman, Phileas Fogg. Your job is to help Fogg win his wager: to travel around the globe in 80 days. To do this, you need to plan the trip for Fogg and take care of him on the journey. How the journey will unfold is completely up to you. Which city to go to, what to explore, who to talk to, what to bring along… Since this game is set in a steampunk world, you may get on some mind-blowing vehicles such as a moving city and an automaton elephant. On the trip, you need to keep Fogg happy and healthy while making sure you have enough money to travel efficiently. Making unwise decisions in the game will delay your travel. As long as you can manage a balance between time, money, and health, you can take whatever routes you want to. The gameplay gives you immense freedom while also posing challenges to you. Most of the content you encounter on your journey is presented to you through text, and the writing is exceptionally good for a video game. This is probably not surprising given the writer studied English literature at Oxford. Reading the text in this game feels like reading a good book: it creates vivid images of your journey – whether it is enjoying an orchestra in Vienna, riding a gondola in Venice, helping a chef in Myanmar to serve local dishes, or discussing politics with the locals in a café in Calcutta, the writing always gives you that immersive experience. The writing also portrays different cultures in a beautiful and nuanced way. The cultures are not presented to the player as products that are meant for their consumption on their journey around the world. Rather, the player is presented with history, struggles, resilience, glory, and humanity… Overall, 80 days is a text-heavy game , but it is not a visual novel. The quality of writing and game design surpass most of those “visual novel” games on Steam. It allows you to explore the world while sitting on a chair in your room. It was the best escape I had while I was trapped by work and couldn’t travel in real life.

Developed by inkle, 80 Days is not just a game—it's an interactive literary journey, a choose-your-own-adventure novel wrapped in sleek steampunk style. Inspired by Jules Verne’s classic Around the World in 80 Days, this text-driven adventure sets a new standard for narrative design, branching choices, and sheer replayability. You play as Passepartout, the ever-resourceful valet to the eccentric Englishman Phileas Fogg, tasked with helping your master circumnavigate the globe in—you guessed it—80 days. But unlike Verne’s relatively linear tale, the world of 80 Days is vast, unpredictable, and bursting with possibilities. Each journey can take you through over 170 cities, from the icy ports of St. Petersburg to the deserts of the Middle East, bustling Asian metropolises, or floating cloud cities straight out of dieselpunk dreams. The game’s steampunk twist on 19th-century Earth is equal parts imaginative and grounded, mixing historical facts with mechanical elephants, submersibles, and airships. At its core, 80 Days is a resource and time management game driven by interactive storytelling. You choose your route across the globe, manage money, luggage, and health, and negotiate fares and accommodations. But it’s the narrative depth that elevates everything. Every stop along the journey presents branching storylines—romance, danger, political intrigue, betrayal, or simply quiet moments of human connection. Your choices feel meaningful, affecting not just your route but the tone and outcome of the journey. No two playthroughs are the same, and the game actively encourages replaying to explore new stories. The writing is, in a word, exquisite. It’s rich, witty, and emotionally resonant, with nuanced worldbuilding and diverse characters. It avoids colonial tropes common in 19th-century fiction and instead offers a more inclusive, speculative look at global cultures and politics. The art is minimal—stylish maps, subtle animations, and a clean UI—but it lets the writing shine. The music and ambient sounds shift subtly as you travel, keeping the atmosphere immersive without overstating it. Few games give players this much narrative freedom without overwhelming them. 80 Days balances elegant writing with meaningful choices, making each journey feel personal. You can win the bet in 60 days or fail gloriously in 100, but every story feels worthwhile. It’s also one of the rare mobile-to-PC ports that feels at home on both platforms—intuitive on a touchscreen, but also comfortable with mouse and keyboard. 80 Days is a masterclass in interactive storytelling. It’s literary, accessible, and endlessly replayable. Whether you’re playing it to beat the clock or to get lost in the dozens of micro-stories hidden around the globe, 80 Days proves that games can be as enriching as any book—and maybe more adventurous. One of the most beautifully written and brilliantly designed narrative games ever made. Rating: 9/10
