In the main career mode, you compete against other drivers, earn cash, pay entry fees, and buy car upgrades or brand-new rides. The gameplay relies heavily on fast reflexes: you need to weave through civilian traffic, overtake aggressive rivals without crashing into track borders, and avoid the police who will chase you down. It also features a built-in track editor for extra replayability. ๐Ÿ‘ PROS: Visual eye candy: the gorgeous pixel-art style and heavy 80s synthwave vibe look incredible.Masterclass soundtrack: an absolute banger of an OST if you enjoy retrowave and electronic beats.Satisfying progression loop: you can genuinely feel the performance jump after upgrading your engine, steering, or adding nitro.Perfect for quick, casual gaming sessions or playing on the go. ๐Ÿ‘Ž CONS: AI opponents can feel a bit unfair or overly aggressive on certain narrow tracks.Handling might feel slightly stiff at first until you get used to its retro arcade physics. ---{ 5 / 10 }--- โ˜ 1 โ˜ 2 โ˜ 3 โ˜ 4 โ˜‘ 5 โ˜ 6 โ˜ 7 โ˜ 8 โ˜ 9 โ˜ 10

i personally really like this game despite the repetitive nature and annoying difficulty curve. it's a good game to pass the time when i don't feel like playing anything intense or more complex. that said, it's definitely not worth full price. i'd just emulate the 3ds version instead.

80s Overdrive surprised me. It looks exactly how you expect. Neon sunsets, palm trees, long highways and synthwave in the background. That atmosphere hooked me fast. The racing is simple. Dodge traffic. Upgrade the car. Try not to crash. Sometimes the AI gets annoying. I still kept playing. I didnโ€™t come here for realism. I came for the vibe.

80's OVERDRIVE is a decent racing game with pixel art, reminiscent of old-school 2D racers. It has a simple but satisfying feel. Besides the other racers, youโ€™ll also have to deal with traffic and even police cars. Even traffic can be aggressive, but I think itโ€™s all part of the arcade experience. The retro yet clean graphics and cool soundtrack are a big part of the package. In career mode, you compete in a series of races while upgrading your car and/or buying new ones. Pretty standard stuff, and it isnโ€™t hard, although the final race can be annoying. Youโ€™ll also have some missions, with a few requiring you to lose races on purpose for some reason. Thereโ€™s also a time attack mode, where you try to go as far as you can before time runs out. You get extra time by driving close to traffic, but I found the amount of extra time you get to be very inconsistent. Lastly, thereโ€™s a sort of level creator, where you create tracks by specifying some parameters. It feels more like an extra feature, and you canโ€™t race in themโ€”only do time trials. It doesnโ€™t have a lot of content, and you can get all achievements in around 6-7 hours if you know what youโ€™re doing. However, some are missable and/or bugged, which is my main complaint. But it can be very cheap on sale, and for that price, itโ€™s a fun little game. I enjoyed it overall and can recommend it.
