A Fisherman’s Tale is a really interesting puzzle game. This is what VR is for. The narration is great, the music is also great, and although some of the puzzles were a little tricky I found it very enjoyable. The only drawback about this game is that it’s very short. You can finish it in 2 hours. There are some reasons to go back into levels to look for collectables but that’s about it. With a $15 price tag that may be asking too much. However you can tell a lot of love went into this title. I got it on sale for a few bucks and I feel like I robbed someone. I highly recommend it.

A title this short shouldn't be $20. I think $10 is fair and $7 is perfect. I like the concept and enjoyed messing with the inception of the lighthouse. On sale this sub two hour puzzle game is decent

A Fisherman’s Tale is a VR puzzle adventure that uses virtual reality not simply as a platform, but as a central pillar of its design and storytelling. You play as Bob, a wooden puppet who lives alone inside a lighthouse, performing the same routine each day as if the world outside hardly matters. Early on, however, the cozy isolation is disrupted when Bob discovers that his home contains a perfect miniature model of the lighthouse—complete with a tiny puppet replica of himself. Looking outside reveals an enormous version of the lighthouse towering above, and the recursive interplay between these differently scaled worlds becomes the beating heart of the game. This idea is more than clever window dressing: it becomes the basis for every challenge you encounter, with puzzles that require you to manipulate objects across multiple versions of reality at once. The game’s puzzle structure shines in the way it invites players to think with their hands, using VR’s physicality as an intuitive tool for problem-solving. A small object placed inside the miniature lighthouse becomes a full-sized object when you step back into the main room. Conversely, a large object in your world can be shrunk by dropping it into the scale model. This mechanic allows for playful experimentation—shrinking ladders, enlarging keys, passing items between worlds, and even watching a giant version of yourself mimic your movements in the space above. The result is a series of puzzles that feel imaginative and tactile, always encouraging a shift in perspective rather than brute-force logic. It’s the sort of puzzle design that feels inseparable from virtual reality; it could not exist meaningfully outside this medium. Beyond its technical and mechanical ingenuity, A Fisherman’s Tale envelops the player in a warm, storybook ambiance. The art direction leans into soft edges, rich colors, and handcrafted textures that give the lighthouse a whimsical, toy-like charm. The narration—delivered with a soothing, almost fable-like tone—guides players gently through Bob’s world, revealing a narrative about isolation, routine, and the courage to step beyond familiar walls. The story unfolds with a tenderness that complements the game’s surreal logic, turning the journey into something more emotional than its puzzle-focused structure might initially suggest. It is a brief tale, but one that manages to communicate loneliness, longing, and hope with a subtle, heartfelt touch. Because the experience is so carefully constructed, its short length is both a strength and a limitation. Most players will finish the game within ninety minutes, perhaps a bit longer if they take time to experiment with objects or admire the intricate environments. The brevity ensures that the central mechanic never overstays its welcome, but it also means that the adventure ends just as players fully acclimate to its reality-bending logic. There is little in the way of replay value once the puzzles are solved, and the controlled nature of the environments leaves little room for improvisation beyond the intended solutions. For a full-priced VR title, this may feel restrictive, but for those who prioritize originality and polish, the focused length contributes to the storybook feel. The act of navigating the lighthouse—grabbing, rotating, lifting, and assembling objects—generally feels smooth and natural, though occasionally small interactions can become fiddly. Teleport-based movement, common in VR puzzle games, ensures comfort but limits the sense of free physical presence. Still, these minor quibbles rarely interrupt the flow of discovery. The game’s pacing is gentle, its environments compact, and its VR interactions thoughtfully designed to minimize frustration. The emphasis remains squarely on wonder, curiosity, and the intimate connection between the player and the small magical world they occupy. A Fisherman’s Tale ultimately succeeds because it understands what makes VR special: the thrill of inhabiting a space, the joy of manipulating objects directly, and the emotional resonance of being physically present inside a story. It transforms a simple lighthouse into a layered metaphor about perspective, self-reflection, and breaking free from one’s own limitations. For players seeking a unique VR experience that blends mechanical inventiveness with emotional charm, it stands out as one of the medium’s most memorable short-form adventures. Its puzzles delight, its atmosphere lingers, and its message, though small in scale, feels surprisingly profound. Rating: 9/10

A very fun VR tech demo that is NOT worth the full asking price of $15. If you can get it on sale for $5 or less, fantastic.

Cute, extremely short, but nevertheless fun This game consistently goes on sale for >$5, and for that it is worth its value. The unique art-style and varied puzzles definitely gives it enough charm to be entertaining. Not much else to say here, as it was a really short game that by the end of it left me wanting more; which is a good feeling compared to the opposite.
