Play this if you want a good story in a unique setting Aether & Iron blends RPG progression with thrilling car-based gameplay into a surprisingly cohesive package. Character development feels meaningful — skill trees, gear choices, and overall reputation shape how you approach missions, while vehicular combat and customization add a constant, high-energy layer to exploration and encounters. Cruising between settlements, tuning your ride, and tackling dynamic road battles creates a satisfying loop: every victory rewards both player skill and mechanical upgrades. The writing and worldbuilding give weight to quests, and the RPG systems ensure choices matter; the driving keeps the pace lively. The game can be a bit buggy, but only in a mildly annoying way — I only had to reload one of the many autosaves. An excellent game; looking forward to future DLC!

It's a really, really strong 4/5. But it's not going to be for everyone. Play this if you want a good story in a unique setting first and foremost for about 25-30 hours. This is a $30 indie RPG that's more like a visual novel with occasional skill checks, broken up with occasional turn based combat. Unique vehicle-based turn based combat. But if you're looking for systems-driven fun, or combat to grind, you won't find it here. What you will find though, is a very linear but very fun romp through a very unique decopunk setting. This game has SAUCE. It has THE VIBES. It looks good, it feels lived in, it's a very well fleshed out world. The dialogue is great! Everything is fully voice acted. And it has a great tone I can only describe as "noir-camp". Gritty and grounded, no, dramatic and emotional, yes! There isn't a great deal of actual content. And while the dialogue is great, the main character's narration leans a bit too purple prose at times with endless attempts at poetic descriptions of things. The game introduces a few systems that just never really have an impact, like managing your "heat" level or hiding "contraband" items from checkpoints. And overall the game could just use a lot more combat encounters. Furthermore, your choices in the story often feel like they just give you a different way to get the same result. Still, there is an ending slide for each of the three levels and all your companions. So your choices do have some impact at the end. At the end of the day, the story in this game is the driving force and is the make or break thing that will define if you like this game. There is a free demo which has about 3 hours of content. And I would fully encourage playing the demo (your progress will carry over in the full game) to see if the game is your kind of vibe. Just know that you're getting a very narrow and focused experience that won't feel like a fully fleshed out RPG, but does have a great story and just enough RPG elements to have some low stakes combat. I hope this game does well, because I want more adventures in this world.

Immaculate vibes. Great writing and voice acting. Light on gameplay but heavy on story. Glad my demo progress carried over. Looking forward to seeing where this goes.

It is a little rough around the edges and lacks a few quality-of-life-features, but I enjoy it for the worldbuilding, the overall narrative and the characters.

Considering the 13 hours of hyperfocused attention since release, I'd need some major Smooth-Talker rolls to convince anyone that this isn't an absolute banger. Brilliant and immense fun all throughout this glorious world of hijinks alongside great characters and satisfying bits of roadside mayhem in-between enthralling storytime. Excellent diamond of a game, looking forward to more after refueling the biological tank. And now with another 15 hours on top, I can safely say that I've had an amazing 28 hours of adventurous splendour!
