Let’s start with the obvious: Aliens: Colonial Marines is far from perfect. It launched with a lot of criticism — some deserved, some a little harsh. But after revisiting the game and reflecting on what it did offer, there’s more to appreciate than most give it credit for. The campaign is surprisingly lengthy and supports up to four-player co-op, which adds a layer of fun and replayability. Sure, it’s not a groundbreaking story, but it stays true to the Aliens universe and delivers fast-paced action that fans of the franchise will enjoy. You’re not just running down corridors — you’re surviving against both Xenomorphs and enemy factions in a chaotic battlefield. Multiplayer is where the game truly shined, at least when it was active. It featured a wide range of game modes — from classic team deathmatch to an endless wave survival mode — and honestly, the variety was impressive. One of the biggest strengths is its deep customization system. You can tweak your weapons, your Marine loadout, and even customize Xenomorph classes. In my opinion, this game has one of the best reward and customization systems in any Aliens title. While newer games like Aliens: Fireteam Elite offer decent cosmetics, many are locked behind microtransactions, which takes away from the satisfaction of unlocking things through gameplay. Colonial Marines, on the other hand, made you earn your gear — a big plus in my book. Unfortunately, the multiplayer is mostly dead today, so if you’re buying this strictly for online play, make sure you’ve got friends ready to squad up — or be prepared to dig around for a community. That said, the single-player/co-op campaign is still enjoyable if you approach it with the right expectations. I’ve always thought that if this game got a proper remaster with updated graphics and some polish, it could be something really special. Imagine combining the atmosphere of Aliens vs Predator with the progression and customization of Colonial Marines — that would be a dream come true for fans. Finally, let’s give some credit to the developers: creating a game with three competing factions, solo or multiplayer, and keeping it all somewhat balanced must have been a huge challenge. In short: if you’re an Aliens fan, or just someone looking for an action-packed sci-fi shooter with a strong co-op element and great customization, Aliens: Colonial Marines deserves a second look. It’s not a masterpiece, but it’s better than its reputation suggests. Aliens: Colonial Marines isn’t perfect, but it’s fun. Great co-op, deep customization, solid campaign, and underrated multiplayer. Flawed, yes—but worth playing? also a yes-yes. Disclaimer: This review assumes you have applied the AI tether fix. See here: https://steamcommunity.com/app/49540/discussions/0/3832042807502714513/ It's actually a pretty decent game. Just a fun co-op shooter with lots of guns, some progression mechanics, a co-op campaign, and a wave based survival mode. Worth grabbing during a sale and playing with a friend or two.

Search online for "classremapping tether fix for Aliens Colonial Marines" There's a typo in the game engine ini file, the word "tether" is spelled wrong. This one typo broke the AI's pathfinding. If you fix the typo, the game goes from being a 4/10 to a 9/10. It goes from being laughable to one of the best Alien FPS I've played. crazy how a single letter typo caused a game to get terrible reviews for like a decade.

One of my favorite games of all time! Grew up on the 360 version, and the PC version is so much better its criminal. It still good in 2025 at max settings and has one of the best multiplayer components ever. Highly overlooked game and is easily the best Alien experience aside from Alien Isolation. I think Colonial Marines blows Fireteam Elite out of the water.
