𝔸 𝕝𝕖𝕘𝕒𝕔𝕪 𝕥𝕠 𝕒 𝕧𝕖𝕣𝕪 ℕ𝕀ℂℍ𝔼 𝕘𝕒𝕞𝕖! Alwa’s Legacy is a retro-style Metroidvania made by Elden Pixels. You play as Zoe, exploring the magical land of Alwa by solving puzzles, unlocking powers, and fighting bosses. This is a sequel to Alwa's Awakening. Both of them can be played in any order (as both games are literally the same in storyline) The game looks and sounds great. Its colorful pixel art and chiptune soundtrack give it a nostalgic yet fresh feel. Every area feels different, from forests to temples, and the dungeons are smartly designed. Gameplay is built around three magical abilities: creating blocks, bubble platforms, and using lightning. These powers can be upgraded and are used in creative ways to solve puzzles and reach new areas. Exploration feels rewarding, and the map is clear enough to help you find secrets. Combat is simple, but the bosses are fun and memorable. It's almost like a pixelart Trine, if that makes sense. However, Alwa's Legacy is not without flaws; the backtracking can seem a tad bit repetitive... and the hidden abilities that require that much backtracking are very mediocre. The incantation of Orbis, for instance, is just the trashiest ability ever and only ever useful against ONE boss (I'll let you figure out which one that is). I'll rate the game a 7/10 . It's very short with really the same basic abilities from Alwa's Awakening. An upgrade of the electricity ability doesn't even work, but for the most part, the bosses are mild, with not very creative patterns. Still, playing as Zoe is always a great addition; the caped mage now seems to have developped a dark sense of humor! Very neat!

Alwa's Awakening walked so this game could run. It's an improvement in all aspects, all the design gripes were worked on. The tear mechanic is quite smart and fun, the exploration abilities are also creative and fun to figure out new interactions with. Most of the instant death hazards are secluded to specific places, so it's a lot more acceptable. It feels a lot smoother to play, after a mixed experience on the first game I had a load of fun on this one. And seeing how all the facets were polished, it shows the dev team truly wanted to make it great as a labor of love.

Classic metroidvania platformer. Doesn't really stand out, but everything it does, it does well. If I have any complaints, I'd probably take issue with how the gem upgrades didn't get great explanations on how they should be used. For those interested: - Flying block sticks to walls and can be used as a foothold. - Color changing robe lets the character hit colored switches instead of using wand abilities to hit switches - Cracked walls can be bombed, so take note of cracks instead of looking for hidden passages - Blocks placed on "death spikes" can exist for a short moment that can be used to quickly jump again. - Infinite bubble breaks a lot of puzzles and can save so much time - pair it with a jump cast to shift your position mid-air. These explanations seem obvious when I say them, but these are optional abilities. The rest of the game can be solved without them, and there's only a small handful of puzzles where they are required. I think I went 3/4 of the game before I realized the blocks stick to walls. Apart from that, its a good platformer game, but you'll need to figure out most of the tricks yourself.

Alwa's Legacy (SNES style) is an adorable sequel to the pretty good Alwa's Awakening (NES style). It's a 2D metroidvania that uses three weapons in simple and ingenious ways. Completing the map 100% took about 11 hours. + Great pixel graphics and fantastic music, including remixes of the previous game. + Lovely enemy design that never feels overwhelming. + Fun NPCs with little sub stories. + Final level is still hard, but less impossible than the first game. + Completionistic behavior is rewarded in fun ways. + An item to let you know about hidden walls! - Some jumps are kind of hard. - The tracking fireballs feel kind of tacked on. It's very worth it and the story is simple and sweet. A well made, fun game!

Great game and a step up from the first Alwa game. It feels more forgiving than the first game, even though precision is still needed sometimes. Optional comfort options give everyone the challenge they desire. The world is all about exploring with a lot of freedom and the metroidvania temporary dead-ends that you need to find the right items to overcome them. Game speed is rather slow but graphics and sound are awesome for Pixel Art and Music which never minded me backtracking. Warps can be activated throughout the world for later shortcuts. I found Pacifist mode an interesting enough challenge for a second playthrough with different gameplay flavor. So I finished the game twice using keyboard only without control issues.
