Time travel story, good even without the H. SFW mode an be toggled in options. 28h to finish, cleared most of the bosses. There's NG+. H scenes are poor – it's the usual visual novel, but without auto mode. Combat is average. Virgin clear gives a bonus late-game. 100% gallery unlock is available as an option late-game.

Nice Story, lacking H. Game can have an actual difficulty that can be mitigated by crafting every chapter if you play at hard mode or harder so that's a plus. 6/10, don't regret it.

And the Hero Was Never Seen Again, developed by Circle Poison and published by Kagura Games, is a character-driven JRPG that subverts traditional heroic fantasy by beginning where most adventures end. Instead of focusing on the climactic battle against a demon lord, the story unfolds in the aftermath of victory. The legendary hero Astel has defeated the ultimate evil, yet awakens transformed and weakened, thrust into a world that has moved on from the need for a champion. This narrative premise immediately distinguishes the game from more conventional fantasy RPGs, framing the experience as one of reinvention, identity, and recovery rather than conquest. The transformation of Astel serves as both a literal and symbolic catalyst. Stripped of former glory and forced into a drastically altered body, the protagonist must navigate a society rebuilding after war. Rather than celebrating triumph, the game examines what it means to lose purpose once the defining mission is complete. This thematic focus gives the story emotional weight, as Astel confronts lingering threats, shifting relationships, and personal uncertainty. The writing emphasizes introspection and gradual adaptation, allowing players to see how former legends cope with ordinary life and unexpected change. Gameplay adheres to classic turn-based JRPG structure, but it is polished with modern conveniences. Battles are straightforward yet tactically engaging, requiring thoughtful skill usage and equipment management rather than repetitive grinding. Difficulty settings can be adjusted at any time, offering flexibility for players who prefer narrative flow or a more demanding strategic experience. Higher difficulties provide improved rewards, encouraging players to experiment with builds and party composition. Crafting materials and equipment upgrades play a meaningful role in progression, reinforcing a steady sense of growth throughout the campaign. The supporting cast is a notable strength. Companions are more than simple combat roles; they possess distinct personalities and motivations that evolve alongside the protagonist. Dialogue exchanges flesh out relationships, creating bonds that feel authentic rather than obligatory. Character arcs unfold naturally through main story progression and optional interactions, rewarding players who engage deeply with side conversations and exploration. This attention to interpersonal dynamics elevates the narrative beyond its fantasy setting. Worldbuilding is handled through environmental storytelling and NPC interactions rather than heavy exposition dumps. Towns feel lived-in, with citizens discussing reconstruction efforts and lingering consequences of the demon war. Optional quests add nuance to the setting, exploring how ordinary people adapt to a post-crisis era. Dungeons and overworld areas maintain traditional RPG structure, though some late-game segments may feel prolonged. Nevertheless, the consistent integration of narrative context keeps exploration purposeful. Mature content is present but integrated in a way that does not overshadow the central story. While the game includes adult themes and optional scenes, these elements function as supplements rather than the primary focus. Players who prefer to concentrate on the adventure and character arcs can do so without losing narrative cohesion. This balance allows the game to appeal both to fans of story-driven RPGs and to players interested in its more explicit aspects. The overall length offers substantial value, with a main campaign spanning over twenty hours depending on difficulty and completionist tendencies. A New Game+ mode enhances replayability by allowing players to retain progress and explore alternate choices or higher challenge levels. The ability to adjust difficulty mid-playthrough also encourages experimentation without penalty. Ultimately, And the Hero Was Never Seen Again stands out for its introspective take on heroic fantasy. By shifting attention from epic triumph to personal aftermath, it crafts a narrative centered on growth, adaptation, and identity. Combined with solid turn-based combat and well-developed characters, it delivers a cohesive and emotionally resonant RPG experience. For players who appreciate character-driven storytelling within a classic JRPG framework, it offers a thoughtful and engaging journey beyond the typical “save the world” formula. Rating: 8/10

So far, the art is amazingly nice, there's a pretty cool intro that is well animated, and the UI is fairly intuitive. I will say as a point of criticism that it's really weird to not have the save function as apart of the main menu, and it's instead under Key items as the save-anywhere-pen. While not the worst, it is unintuitive and isn't the first thing one thinks of when thinking of a save function. Also, I still haven't figured out how to load without quitting the game entirely. So far, from what I can see in the tutorial, the scenes will be uncensored, and the art is gorgeous. I haven't gotten into a battle yet, that's kind of an issue of slower pacing, but part of that is my own fault with misunderstanding the save funtion, making me start all over to read and actually pay attention. There isn't an object screen either so if you're like me and take breaks for either a bump or toke, then you tend to forget what the objectives are, which is annoying. You can switch formation between heriones, which is a cool idea, however, switching the formation doesn't change the main story, which is disappointing. I was slightly excited at the notion of possibly having different dialouge depending on the herione in the front of the formation, however, I overestimated this a lot, as the main story is seemingly linear, so far. Maybe there'll be branching points latter on, it is what it is. This is the beginning of the game, so it possibly assumes you'll be playing as Astel, the main protagonist. Also, regarding the story, there is elements of gender-bend, so be prepared for that. It doesn't seem to be focusing on too much of the fetishization of this, so far, but likely will play apart of the story if one wishes to progress that way. It explicitly mentions that there is a "Virgin Clear Route" so that's fun. I appreciate the inclusion of rewarding a pure play route, as not too many kagura games do that. It's a nice little touch that shows the devs really care about the customer's experience in playing this game, which that alone, should sell one to buy this game. I honestly think this game is likely worth it, full price, but will update the review if anything egregious comes up.

I'm going to say up front. If you're getting this for the h-content alone this is not a recommend. The H-content feels like an afterthought. There's a lot of it, but it's not particularly great (it's not bad either just dull), and for what appears to be a corruption game it's lacking in impact in that category. Probably the most frustrating thing for me in particular is that it has zero impact on the story. Like the one good thing about it is I like all the girls for different reasons in the h-content, but I'd like for there to be some impact aside from the virgin clear giving you a reward. Now for why this is something I do recommend. As a JRPG it's decent. While I am just playing on normal there appears to be a lot of thought put into making the higher difficulties a challenge. There's a decent bit of complexity in the systems that probably could be fun to figure out. Personally, I'm happy enough with normal as it's enough to keep me engaged without falling asleep and I can skip past a significant group of mobs to avoid grinding when I might otherwise have to. The story for this is decent. I have not completed it as of yet, but I'm about 2/3 of the way through, and I'm comfortable enough with giving the game a review as a result of that. All three MCs are very likeable with fun quirks and solid dramatic moments. The world is really neat, and even reading the extra lore bits is really cool as that's not something I usually do. Now that I think of it... I like this game for a lot of the same reasons I like Demons Roots, and if anything the h-content is a bit of a detriment to the game. Most of the fun I've gotten out of this game is just from progressing the story.
