Wow, this game really surprised me! First off, it’s a stunning sci-fi walking sim. The game is just freakin gorgeous. The environments, character models (especially the faces), and world assets are brilliantly done. Bravo to DON'T NOD on making what's easily the best-looking game I’ve seen them develop. It’s a huge step up for them and absolutely incredible overall. The walking sim elements are fun as well. They can feel a little wonky at times, but overall the climbing, platforming, and stealth segments throughout are engaging and enjoyable. The real star of the show, however, is the story. The premise starts out seemingly cliché, but as you progress, the two main characters and their relationship develop in some incredibly introspective and meaningful ways. It’s so well written, the dialogue is masterfully done, and the emotional moments hit hard. I was literally in tears at one point. I was totally blown away by the performances and writing here. DON'T NOD’s games can have a strong emotional effect...they’re particularly good at that...but this one really grabbed me by the heartstrings. Although the game gets particularly dark and heavy at times, it never feels maliciously depressing. They balance the emotions on a tightrope, and I came out on the other side deeply appreciating the experience. Coming from someone who typically prefers happy endings, they created something here that explores difficult topics without punishing you for caring. What you get instead is something genuinely beautiful, and I loved it. If you’re a fan of walking sims like I am, you absolutely cannot miss this one.

This game has a story that kept me wanting to finish it. If you enjoyed the mechanics from the Altiar/Ezio era of Assassin's Creed, you'll most likely enjoy this as well. As other's have stated, there were a few spots where the path forward wasn't easily marked and was a bit of a struggle. That said, the narrative helped fuel my stubbornness to find my way through. I'd give this a 7-8 out of 10 and recommend it to all my fellow space enthusiasts out there.

As someone who was in the mood for a Sci-Fi experience with the vibe of Interstellar, I can say that Aphelion scratched that itch... to a degree. Where Aphelion shines is in its atmosphere and environmental design. Some noticeable standouts being the interior of the Nexus base and pretty much all of the snowy vistas. It is clear that the environmental, level and audio design teams put a lot of work into making this game look and sound good, and that shouldn't go under appreciated. The story is solid, with a very good climax involving the two main protagonists. Though I would say the ending leaves you with a lot of unanswered questions. Which could appeal to some and frustrate others. The voice actors gave decent performances, though I found Thomas' english accent distracting... I am a native English speaker, so it wasn't a problem with comprehension, more so that it sounded like the actor was putting on a fake english accent. In any case, the emotion was there for both our protagonists and the performances were ultimately good. The found audio logs fell short in this regard unfortunately, the single acted ones were alright, but there were several where two actors were talking to each other... but it felt more like they were talking past eachother. The dialogue was stilted, my guess being that they were not recorded in the same room at the same time. The gameplay is just alright. It takes a fair amount of inspiration from your "generic action-adventure game" from the mid-2010s - think Uncharted or Tomb Raider. Which is executed fairly well, though the controls are clunky and can feel frustrating at times. The stealth segments are more of the same, with slowed down movement speed and failed skill checks alerting the "Nemesis". Which would be fine if a full alerted state wasn't a guaranteed failure and "reload checkpoint" shortcut. I think that the developers could have put more thought and effort into making the stealth segments more mechanically rich. Ideally with ways to recover a failed state - giving the player more to do and a second chance if they stuffed something up. There are a ton of games out there that execute these mechanics better... but thankfully, that's probably not why you would have been likely to pick a DON'T NOD game up. The runtime is short, and the game offers little in terms of replayability, but in the landscape of the modern video games industry, where everyone and their aunty is competing for ALL of your time... this actually comes as a breath of fresh air. I appreciate that there are still developers out there willing to release a game like this in 2026. In conclusion, I enjoyed my time with Aphelion and I recommend it. I think the industry could do with a few more games like this.

I just finished the game and can highly recommend it (though not to everyone) What I liked: The environments are really cool and atmospheric. The music fits great and enhances the mood. The story is engaging and kept me interested throughout. The overall tone feels like a tense, partly oppressive sci-fi film. That said, there are a few issues that bring the experience down. The game could have used more polish. At times, certain mechanics didn’t work as intended, which led to getting stuck or having to replay sections. Some checkpoints also felt poorly placed and could have been closer to the more challenging parts. I also hade a few crashes, maybe three or four. The most noticeable drawback is the voice acting. It can be surprisingly weak at times—especially Ariane. Lines are sometimes delivered with emphasis on the wrong words, almost as if the actor doesn’t fully understand the context. There are also parts where the character’s tone doesn’t match the situation they’re in. It’s also worth noting that this is not a traditional action game. You can’t fight enemies—you can only run and evade. I’d recommend this to players who enjoy science fiction, prefer story- and atmosphere-driven experiences, and don’t mind a slower pace with minimal action.

I think the main inspirations could have been The Invincible and Deliver Us The Moon/Mars. The story reminds me of The Invincible, just isn't as strong if I'm honest. The mechanics are more Deliver Us, and I think they are pretty strong. Simple, yes, but solid. Start didn't feel very good at all, but that was mostly because I came in expecting some realism, and that was not what was on offer. Just a silly little game -attitude could work better. That being said, later chapters were really immersive to me.
