I really wish I had bought this game sooner. The reason I didn't buy this game for a long time was basically this: "Move to a point for 20 minutes straight, get shot in the head, respawn, and repeat? No thanks. That's not for me." As someone who loves tactical shooters, I honestly thought that kind of gameplay would just be exhausting. After coming home from work, the last thing I wanted was to spend my free time slowly walking somewhere just to get killed. Then one day, I decided to buy it anyway, even though I wasn't convinced I'd enjoy it. I played it. And ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. I spent the whole session wondering why I hadn't bought this game sooner. I was looking at the wrong part of it. What I thought about the game wasn't entirely wrong. You really can spend a long time moving from A to B with little to no action. But I completely missed the other side of it: the adventure that happens while you're doing that. I've been playing games casually for around 10 years, and among online games, I can only think of two where I genuinely enjoy even the moments when "nothing is happening": Arc Raiders and Arma Reforger. As a semi-casual player who loves tactical games, these are the only two where simply moving around, looking for something, or just trying to get somewhere can still feel like part of the actual game. And when the fighting finally starts, Arma Reforger can become unbelievably tense. Not because of graphics or some incredible mechanical system. It's the feeling . You feel pressure. You feel like everything can go wrong. But at the same time, you always feel like there might still be something you can do. And even in those situations where you know you're completely screwed, the game somehow creates a feeling that I rarely get from other games. It's hard to explain, but it's incredibly memorable. Every spawn can become its own story. One of my favorite experiences happened during a completely normal logistics run. I spawned, took a truck, and started delivering supplies from the south to a base in the north. The trip itself was supposed to take around 20 minutes from my exprience(the distance to the target location). But along the way, I kept seeing things: Crashed vehicles. Bodies/Casualties and Cars abandoned in the middle of the road. None of these things were cutscenes or scripted events, but they still made the world feel like something had happened there. After surviving an ambush, I ran into another friendly player. We teamed up, and he decided to come with me. because of the time that was spent in that journey due to getting lost or getting into ambush or spending time to patch ourself and plan the actual run; the sun just got down. As we got closer to the base, we suddenly saw enemy vehicles passing right in front of us. That was the moment we realized: Yeah. We're probably ♥♥♥♥♥♥. The base was likely already gone, and the enemy was directly between us and our destination. What followed was a car chase, fighting and hiding inside buildings, trying to avoid being found, getting pinned down behind a single rock while taking suppressive fire, and constantly having that feeling that we might be taking our last few breaths. And all of that came from one spawn. The entire story took maybe 30–40 minutes. Think about that. That's just one story that can happen to someone from one spawn, and another person can have a completely different one even if they use the same loadout and take the same route. That's what finally made the game click for me. The biggest enemy is probably yourself. The only real obstacle I can see to enjoying this game is taking it too seriously. I understand that it's a competitive game. Try your best, communicate, play tactically, do your part. But bro... It's a game. Don't make it miserable for yourself because you feel like every death or every mistake matters. Sometimes the best moments are the completely stupid ones. I mostly play on official servers, and from my experience, around 80% of the matches I've played was fine, no matter sweats or casuals, this games different So yeah. I spent years thinking Arma Reforger was just: "Walk for 20 minutes. Get shot. Repeat." Now I understand that the walking is part of the story...
First of All: I mainly played multiplayer Vanilla Servers, since the amount of modded content takes me ages to gear up. I really enjoy the game so far, but it heavily comes down on the amount of teamplay and communication, to be successfull. Last experience on a modded server I want to share with you. I played on a Echos Of Hell Vietnam Era modded server, and got more then I expected. 1. Spawned in base camp and spent 15 minutes to gear up. 2. Took a helicopter to the next LZ near the enemy objective. 3. After taking about 30 steps I get downed by friendly fire. 4. Guy finds me and patches me up, so I don't bleed out. I'm still unconcious 5. He carrys me through the jungle to find me a medic and keep me alive. 6. Finds a medic that treats me and stays with me during the process 7. Random guy gives me to much morphine, so medic says I might die on overdose now, while he turnes to the next patient 8. I am still unconcious and have tunnel vision until another medic arrives. I ask him in voice chat to get me a medivac. 9. He carries me back through the jungle to the LZ. Helicopter just takes off and leaves us behind. 10. I ask him to pop some smoke to draw attention of passing helicopters. 11. It worked and he carries me to the helicopter. The pilots ask him to put me down, so they can take it from here. 12. He puts me down a ridge and my unconcious body starts sliding down into a ditch. 13. I hear them panic while my body floats away and my vision turns black. 14. After 30 min gameplay I died a few yards away from the helicopter. 10/10 would drown again
I installed this game thinking I was getting a military simulator. Instead, I got PTSD from trees. One minute I'm leading a perfectly coordinated assault. The next, my driver somehow flips a Humvee into low Earth orbit after hitting what I can only assume was an aggressive pebble. Communication goes from: "Enemy north, 300 meters!" to "WHO THE HELL STOLE THE HELICOPTER?" Five minutes later the helicopter is upside down in a lake, the pilot says it was "part of the plan," and somehow we still win the objective. You'll spend 45 minutes planning an attack that lasts 12 seconds because Dave forgot what blue smoke meant and called artillery on the squad. The enemy isn't the other team. It's your own teammates. You'll die to: A bush. A teammate backing over you. Someone yelling "clear backblast" half a second too late. Falling down a hill because your soldier has the balance of a drunk giraffe. Every firefight feels like you're starring in an action movie directed by absolute idiots, and somehow that's exactly what makes this game amazing. 10/10. Would absolutely spend two hours driving logistics just to get vaporized by one guy hiding in a tree again.
