Army Troop, developed and published by Army Troop Studios, is a small-scale World War II–themed first-person shooter that embraces straightforward multiplayer action rather than attempting to compete with sprawling, cinematic military shooters. Its premise is immediately familiar—you pick a soldier class, deploy onto a battlefield, and fight for your team’s score—but the game’s simplicity is core to its identity. It aims to rekindle the pick-up-and-play spirit of early online shooters, where matches were fast, mechanics were easy to understand, and enjoyment came from pure competition rather than layered progression systems or complex objectives. That philosophy makes Army Troop accessible in a way many modern shooters aren’t, especially for players who want lighthearted combat rather than a massive live-service commitment. The game revolves around traditional multiplayer modes like team deathmatch and free-for-all, set across wide, open maps designed to accommodate different playstyles. Infantry slug it out on foot, snipers post up across long sightlines, and more specialized classes add subtle variety to the battlefield. Each weapon category—from rifles and pistols to SMGs and shotguns—handles differently enough to encourage experimentation, and small touches like weapon skins, perks, and cosmetic accessories allow players to personalize their soldier without disrupting balance. There’s no elaborate unlock grind or monetization system tucked beneath the surface, leaving the core gameplay loop refreshingly direct: spawn, fight, respawn, repeat. Perhaps the most practical design choice is the inclusion of competent AI bots, allowing matches to stay active even during slow server periods. For an indie shooter without the massive audience of AAA franchises, this feature dramatically improves usability—players don’t have to wait for full lobbies or abandon the game due to population dips. The maps also help sustain momentum, prioritizing open terrain and simple layouts over intricate choke points or objective structures. While not particularly innovative, they provide enough space for dynamic firefights and improvised tactics, which suits the game’s fast, arcade-like pacing. Visually, Army Troop falls into the category of functional rather than impressive. Character models, weapon textures, lighting, and environmental details get the job done but rarely stand out, reflecting its indie budget and early development stage. The audio design follows a similar pattern—gunshots and explosions offer recognizable feedback, but they lack the layered weight found in higher-end shooters. Still, the minimal system requirements mean that players with older or lower-spec PCs can participate without performance anxiety, which broadens the game’s potential audience and aligns with its goal of approachable multiplayer fun. The game’s simplicity, however, can also be a limitation. Matches can feel repetitive after extended play, especially since most modes revolve around raw elimination rather than objective variety, large team coordination, or dynamic battlefield events. Players accustomed to shooters with extensive progression systems, detailed ballistics modeling, or narrative framing may find Army Troop lacking in depth. Its Early Access state also means occasional rough edges—interface quirks, balance inconsistencies, visual repetition, or network issues may appear depending on the session. And because the online population isn’t consistently dense, the experience is often best when played with friends rather than relying solely on public matchmaking. Despite these drawbacks, Army Troop succeeds on its own terms. It doesn’t overpromise, and its modest ambitions help it deliver what it intends to: fast, uncomplicated WW2 firefights that anyone can jump into. It fills a niche between hyper-realistic military simulators and flashy blockbuster shooters—something relaxed, accessible, and easy to revisit. Its low cost, low hardware demands, and familiar mechanics make it appealing for players who want to enjoy casual multiplayer battles without investing time, money, or emotional energy into a larger ecosystem. Army Troop is ultimately a reminder of how enjoyable stripped-down competitive shooters can be when they don’t burden players with bloat or expectations. It may not evolve the genre, but it provides a serviceable, low-pressure environment for quick matches, experimentation, and friendly competition. For players seeking polished production, mechanical depth, or long-term progression, it may not satisfy. But for those who miss simpler online shooters—with class-based combat, straightforward maps, and a focus on pure firefighting—it offers a modest, affordable, and entertaining alternative worth keeping an eye on as it continues to develop. I thought of a good concept, to upgrade the game and... I think of killstreaks. Something kind out from call of duty or some reward for having killstreak. Im pretty sure the game developer won't see this, but I wanted to ask if it's possible?
