You combine water with flour to make dough, use the rolling pin on the dough to make raw pie, manually place the pie near a fire to watch it cook. Dragging items in and out of your inventory and into the game world in such a physical manner feels so good. The consistency of placing an item on a shelf and never having to worry about it falling off the world, disappearing from janky physics or despawning after some time. The way most fights can end in 4-5 offensive moves for either you or your enemies. This game is rough around the egdes, certain things feel incomplete, and the controls and pace take some getting used to, but there's a reason why it's so highly regarded after all this time. I wish so bad this had been the foundation of modern rpg's instead of the trash we have now. A slower-paced dungeon crawler immersive sim for the thoughtful gamer.

Not even 2 bucks! If you enjoy oldskool RPGs that can get confusing without a guide but make exploration and experimenting even more exciting I recommend this one. Slap on the Arx Libertatis mod (VERY IMPORTANT!!!) on it https://arx-libertatis.org/ and you're good to go. The game has a large fanbase, so you will find guides and info for everything.

When people say this game is underrated they mean it! Arkane was really ahead of their time back in the early days when they were still starting off and Arx really shows it, Arx is a first person dungeon crawler and immersive game with a heavy influence and inspiration from Ultima underworld. The plot is pretty simple and interesting enough to follow along with the lore building though the game feels short and by the end I am left wanting for more of this world so its a shame that we won't be revisiting it or getting a sequel. Of course Arx isn't perfect and being one of Arkane's early games it has jank here and there, the controls take a bit to get a hang of but once you do its pretty smooth, melee combat is simple and has no flair, and the magic system while being its strong point can be unwieldy since you have to draw runes to cast magic. But if you can get past the jank, the controls and how old this game is then getting into arx isn't difficult. One last thing though, I recommend downloading arx libertatis, a open source, improved, cross platform and open source engine for the game, it will help make your experience more smoother as it allows the game to be more compatible and supported for modern systems as well as eliminating bugs and limitations. If you download it your computer will say its a virus but having downloaded and used it myself I can confidently say its not a virus and there is a steam discussion page about this issue which you can easily search for. That's all and hopefully this review helped you in trying out this game.

Arx Fatalis is long, complex, and unapologetically difficult. It throws you into a harsh underground world where survival depends on your choices, your wits, and your willingness to experiment. The sheer amount of freedom on offer is impressive you can approach situations in multiple ways, interact with nearly every object in the environment, and uncover hidden passages and secrets that reward curiosity. The level design constantly encourages exploration, and the interconnected areas feel like a living, breathing labyrinth. You’re never guided too directly, which can be overwhelming at first, but it also makes discovery that much more rewarding. The magic system in particular, with its rune-based spell casting, is both challenging and satisfying once mastered. What really stands out, though, is how immersive the world feels. The oppressive atmosphere, dark dungeons, and ever-present sense of danger keep you on edge, and it’s easy to lose yourself for hours in its winding tunnels. It’s not a game that holds your hand, but for players willing to adapt to its difficulty and complexity, Arx Fatalis offers a unique and unforgettable RPG experience.
