You play as an old lady with Alzheimer's. No one is mean to you, but the game is very bittersweet. It's also a very short game, wouldn't take you two hours, like it took me. I just had to get up and audibly sob every once in a while.

As a nurse working closely with patients who have Alzheimer's and other dementias, the experience from this game felt emotionally honest, respectful and painfully real. A beautifully crafted game with the affirmation of why I care for the people I do, and why their stories matter. A thumbs up from me.
The coziest breakdown you’ll ever experience. Bring tissues (and maybe a hug)
I’ve apparently entered my “games that make me cry” era, and As Long As You’re Here hit especially close to home. Having grown up surrounded by loved ones battling dementia and Alzheimer’s, this game felt like watching a slow echo of my own fears play out, and yet, it’s done with such care, empathy, and quiet grace that I couldn’t help but call it a gem. It’s deceptively cozy at first. You tend your plants (all charmingly named), knit whenever you please, and move through peaceful daily routines. But soon, that calm starts slipping. Tasks become confusing, memory blurs, and you feel yourself unraveling, not through jump scares or shock, but through subtle, masterful design. You know where it’s heading, but not how fast, and that’s what makes it so powerful. The writing and mechanics mirror real-life caregiving with painful accuracy. It’s short (about an hour), but that’s almost a mercy: I don’t think I could’ve endured much longer emotionally. There are small hiccups, like the lack of scene selection to replay certain parts, slow text display from time to time, and some slightly dizzying morning animations, but none of it dims the final impact. This isn’t an easy experience, but it’s a meaningful one. Take the trigger warnings seriously. If you can handle it, As Long As You’re Here is a beautifully designed, heartbreakingly human story that lingers long after the screen fades to black. Game type: walking sim Game length: 1-2 hours Excellent indie gem that hits emotionally harder than games I've played 10x longer. I wouldn't want it to be longer, personally; the game respects your time by having each moment be poignant and rich, without any of the dull trudging that can make other walking sims drag. Highly recommend!

As someone with Dementia, I was able to pass this forward to my support circle as a resource for how things sometimes look for me. I felt very seen and understood. My own Dementia made this game harder than it will be for anyone else, and its length is perfect. Beautiful and impactful.
