Just like with most Ateliers, E&L is a laid-back jrpg with a focus on crafting and gathering. It has a strong "autumn" feel to it, with muted colors and pensive overall mood, but even in this bleak setting you end up chilling with the characteres and appreciating the beauty of their world and life. The fun cast is balanced well both combat-wise and screentime-wise, allowing you to play around with many party options. Alongside great artstyle, good ost and engaging gameplay loop, this is a great game if you just want to emotionally unwind

As I start the atelier series with atelier iris: eternal mana. This is one of the closest combat gameplay to mana khemia 1 & 2 aside from atelier shallie. Hoping mana khemia will get a remaster. So please consider supporting atelier marie remake. <3

Although Escha & Logy isn't my first brush with the Atelier series (my previous attempts ending in complete disaster and disappointment), I would consider it my entry point as it's the first game I stick with for a few reasons, chief among them being the fact that I'm at a stage in my life where I can appreciate games with a slower pace and a character-focused plot that lacks an epic overarching narrative. While the characters, crafting, combat, and the autumnal vibes made me stay, I'd be doing a disservice if I didn't mention how relatable this game is. Due to working for the government, the titular characters end up being office workers more than anything. By this I don't mean to say that they never go out, but rather that they have to deal with the nonsensical bureaucracy that's so common in modern office environments. The overbearing manager who's doing what they can, the uncooperative co-workers, the "scary" chief of staff (if you're easily scared by such people), the colleagues who are either clueless or prefer to delegate their duties to someone else... It's all here. If you've ever worked in a corporate position, then the Colseit government branch will feel right at home, for better or worse. I also think it's worth mentioning that this is a slice of life game more so than a JRPG. Yes, there's combat (and the system is actually pretty good) and as an Atelier game, there's a focus on synthesising. However, no one told me that character interactions are the actual core of the gameplay with everything else being fluff. At one point I got a new cutscene every time I increased my synthesis level, which happened with a single synthesis. So I was going from synthesising an item to watching a cutscene, back to synthesising, and back to the cutscenes, rinse and repeat for about 20min or so. It was a bit annoying, but the character development made up for it, not to mention some conversations are genuinely quite funny. If you're considering Escha & Logy as your entry point into the series, be aware that there's a lot more dialogue than there is actually synthesising or fighting. I don't know if the whole series is like this, but I know I would've hated these games when I was younger and couldn't appreciate this kind of experience. If that doesn't appeal to you, I'd suggest having a look at the My Time games as they play more like your average life sim but with a focus on crafting. However, if everything I said so far sounds like a good time to you, then E&L is magical!

I enjoyed the dynamics of the alchemists pair in this game. I completed both routes, although I must admit that I enjoyed Escha's route the most. The character events are enjoyable, albeit I find them somewhat… lacking. Perhaps the rather spotty localisation didn't really make a strong case of it either. Hidari's artwork is still godly, though. And the soundtrack has quite a few bangers in there as well. There are several haunting tracks, including the ED, that I feel quite fitting for the "Dusk" theme. It's not quite the best Atelier game, but the synthesis mechanics is probably the best from Dusk series.

Atelier Escha & Logy is very fun! The synthesis was great, although I never figured out how to control the stats bar. Personally I really liked 2 of the new characters, and one of the returning characters, the rest were okay or not good. The environments are pretty, and the boss fights are fun. The story was kind of lacking this one, it was very slice-of-life which is fine, but did not have the big character growth slice-of-lifes are usually known for. My biggest issue with the game was, gosh can it stop telling characters to eat less food?? I swear every other character interaction moment is some character telling Escha she eats too much. That's annoying writing. Otherwise pretty good! Out of the 7 Atelier games I've played, I'd put this one at 2nd place, with Ayesha above it in 1st place.
