expect to have your pattern reading and hand-eye coordination skills challenged in levels that flow like butter with background storyboards that confuse, guide and leave you in awe the steam screenshots cannot give the experience justice though, "sides" is by far the clunkiest and most disruptive mechanic where it always feels like i'm fighting with the game's controls naw dawg keep that thang out of levels it's giga ick

very fun even if you suck at rhythm games. has a high skill ceiling and low skill floor so that basically anyone can enjoy the game. also the soundtrack is consistently amazing, i find myself going back to the very easy introduction maps all the time just to listen to the music.

Genuinely is my favorite rhythm game of all time, and one of my favorite games in general. All the vanilla levels are super fun, the control scheme feels good on pretty much any hardware, and the visuals look very stylized but in just the right way to allow for SO much unique stuff when it comes to level stylizing. And best part is there's SO many custom levels, and a built-in level editor (which is essentially what the devs use to make the main game levels, except with a few things locked* out of usage) Not enough levels on the workshop? You can find a whole bunch of older custom levels in the (non-official) custom level discord. *(you can totally bypass the lock on some(?) of the dev-only stuff with a little digging around in the files.) Awesome game. 9/10 only because its not actually finished.

Beatblock! It's a friggin awesome rhythm game. The gameplay is neat and somewhat novel, the songs are bops, and I found 'Blow a Fuse' from it, the charting is great, you can make Cranky look cute, and the hit sound effects are incredibly satisfying! My only issues are the 'side notes', and the visuals. Side notes are a pain to deal with, especially when there's a dozen notes are flying at you, and it's nearly impossible to get a good rating without setting the game to be a bit lenient with hits on them. The visuals on some levels can really mess with you, especially on faster parts of songs. Granted, this is probably intentional, and the games makes it easier sometimes, but on levels like Omelette Cafe by Road 38, BEATROCK (get it?), and the Rhythm Doctor collab on hard... meh. And this isn't meant as a dig to visual hindrances in rhythm games at all, in fact, I think there should be more of them. But... when your rhythm game requires you to be able to see the notes to play the game properly, it's a bit problematic. But aside from those 2 minor grievances, I very much recommend to any fans of the genre! It's grand. Cranky/10
