A great VSRG option that has a fantastic music selection if you like BMS-y music, mobile rhythm games or the Japanese RG music scene (think xi, morimori atsushi, sakuzyo, etc.) I don't know other Steam rhythm games that have the same focus on that genre so this is my main draw to the game! Gameplay: I mainly play 4k, haven't done much 5k yet - but the charts are fun! Many of them may feel like they are too easy/undercharted if you play at a high level, but there is a separate special difficulty (astra) that is harder and is charted by some of the song's composers or well known rhythm game players (MINI, jakads, DDX, etc). The downside is that only some songs have astra difficulty and a lot of songs I like don't have one. There is a distinct lack of level 19-20 songs (the highest level) in the base charts and astra (using a different difficulty scale) is supposed to go up to 5* but there is still not a single chart at that level. I'm not a "hard = good" person but I just think some songs haven't reached their full potential. I hope to see the devs continue to round out their difficulty spread. Otherwise I really enjoy playing through the large song list and improving my scores. People who say the charting doesn't match the songs have bad calibration or a skill issue (sorry but true) The story isn't very good but has its cool moments and cool visuals on a lot of songs. You can tell they wanted to make it interesting but it's just full of boring dialogue in between the good stuff. I skimmed through it and stopped reading after a few hours but the gameplay is the main focus here and there's no punishment for not doing the story. You can play every song regardless of whether you touch the story. Overall it's a solid experience with an awesome song selection and fun gameplay! I hope to see this game get a lot of support as it continues on.
Visual novel story and classic rhythm gameplay. The game provides two different button modes. 4 key and 5 key and each one comes in 3 difficulties to pick from. Beginners and experts will find their happiness with this game. The execution is flawless. The game feels incredibly crisp and is on par with other big games like DJMAX. The song selection is very good. I consider to buy the DLC but waiting for a discount first. Get this game if you like rhythm games!
I was searching for a rhythm game with a rich story, and this has been exactly what I was trying to find. The story is long enough to feel that the money spent is worth it and the songs in the main story fit perfectly inside the storytelling. My only regret is that I have some skill issue, so I played most of the songs in normal difficulty; at least for me, any chart above difficulty 13 seems too hard to follow. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the learning progression since when I played for the first time, I had struggles with songs of difficulty 5.
I can't even describe how astonished I am by the quality of the game. Having played the somewhat obscure mobile rhythm game many years ago on an emulator, I was happy to finally see a proper PC port! Though, calling it a port is doing it injustice, they removed all the mobile-game-esque things and built it from the ground up to be an amazing PC game, and succeeded. Not only do they have some of the best music of any rhythm game, but to top it off amazing performance, unlimited framerate, sound buffer customization, ASIO support (I wonder how they did that, amazing), customizable HID polling up to 8kHz, Nvidia Reflex in a damn rhythm game, they really thought of everything to make this not only the best rhythm game, but probably also the best platform for a rhythm game! 10/10 for dedication. That said, there are some nitpicks. The DLC is rather steeply priced, but most of them are collaborations so I suppose someone has to get paid for their work. I do also wish they refrained from gendering the protagonist of the story, since it serves no purpose. "The performer" isn't a character, the dialogue is written as if they are talking to you directly. It's hard to feel like they are actually referring to you though if you're a woman. Also, please bring Kalpa controller to global market <3
